Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles 1B/OF Steve Pearce has beat out OF Conor Jackson for the final spot on the team's Opening Day roster.

Baltimore Orioles OF Conor Jackson hit two home runs Tuesday, March 5, and he has a slash line of .313/.353/.750 with five RBIs in six spring training games. Jackson is receiving the chance to prove he belongs on the roster, and so far he has delivered. Manager Buck Showalter said Jackson is finally regaining the strength he lost from valley fever back in 2009. He could become the backup to 1B Chris Davis as well as providing depth in the outfield. He could also platoon at designated hitter with 1B Wilson Betemit, but he'll need to beat out 1B Steve Pearce and 3B Danny Valencia.

Baltimore Orioles INFs Danny Valencia, Steve Pearce, Conor Jackson, Travis Ishikawa and Russ Canzler will see time at first base this spring, as they battle for playing time at the position behind 1B Chris Davis. INF Ryan Flaherty is also in the mix to be the team's backup first baseman.

The Baltimore Orioles re-signed 2B Travis Adair, 1B Steve Pearce and C Chase Weems to minor-league contracts Friday, Jan. 18. Adair is the son of Orioles pitching coach Rick Adair.

The Baltimore Orioles will have plenty of competition for reserve jobs in spring training. 3B Danny Valencia will be battling 3B Wilson Betemit for a reserve job, and at-bats at designated hitter. OF Trayvon Robinson, who is out of options, figures to be another candidate for a bench job. OF Conor Jackson and 1B Travis Ishikawa, who have also spent time at the big-league level, are in the mix for jobs, as well as 1B Steve Pearce.
