Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter would like to give 2B Jonathan Schoop, who can also play third base, the bulk of his starts at second base. Schoop has been working with coaches on his fielding at the keystone.
Fantasy Tip: Schoop should already be owned in AL-only leagues, and he could become a nice commodity for middle-infield depth in very deep mixed universes if he ends up being a favorite of Showalter's. However, he'll open the season splitting time with Steve Lombardozzi and Steve Pearce.

Updating a previous item, Baltimore Orioles OF Nolan Reimold (neck) has not experienced a setback, but he hasn't been able to play the outfield comfortably since having surgery to fuse two vertebrae in his neck in January. He can hit without restrictions but has some problems tilting his head to track fly balls. Manager Buck Showalter said Reimold is "light years ahead" of where he's been in the past. Reimold starting on the DL increases the chances that OFs Steve Pearce and Delmon Young make the active roster.

The Baltimore Orioles placed SP Jason Hammel (forearm) on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm tightness Wednesday, July 31, and OF Steve Pearce was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move. Also, RP Jairo Asencio has cleared waivers and was outrighted to the minors.
Fantasy Tip: Bud Norris, who the O's just traded for today, will effectively take Hammel's place in the rotation. It's unclear if Hammel will have a rotation spot when he's ready to return, but he can be dropped in shallow formats.
