Ravens | Contract Updates

Thu, 10 Jun 1999 07:30:00 -0700

The Baltimore Sun reports that RB Priest Holmes and CB DeRon Jenkins are the only two Ravens not to accept their tender offers. The Ravens have offered him the standard one-year, $325,000 offer to Holmes which reportedly would make him the lowest-paid starting running back in the league and the lowest-paid of any runner who had more than 1,000 yards rushing last year. Holmes, despite that fact, has no plans to holdout. The team and his agent have had some discussions around a long term contract, but the Ravens would like to see him have one more impressive year before they do so. "If he has another year comparable to last year, we'll enter into a long-term agreement, the same way we did with Jermaine Lewis," said Ravens VP Ozzie Newsome. "He has shown the ability we ask of our running backs. He can run inside, outside and pass protect." Currently it looks lilke Holmes could wind up the starter with Jay Graham and Steve Broussard playing third downs with Errict Rhett as the short yardage back.
