Free-agent RB Shaun Alexander (Redskins) said during a radio interview with KNBR in San Francisco that he would like to return to play for the Washington Redskins this season but is unsure if the opportunity will come. "I don't know. My agents are talking. I would love to," Alexander said. "I'm training with my new trainers up in New Jersey like I'm going to be their (Redskins) guy and come play with them. Of course they have Clinton (Portis) and Ladell (Betts) and they've brought in a couple of guys. For me its like they know what I can do so they're going to check to see what their guys can do and then after that we'll make a decision."

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (hip) pulled a muscle near his hip in the first half of the team's Week 12 game. He was able to remain the game, though head coach Jim Zorn did prepare RB Shaun Alexander to play in the second half if Portis couldn't go.

Jim Moore, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports free-agent RB Shaun Alexander (Seahawks) continues to work out in hopes of signing with another NFL team. Alexander is eager to show teams that he is still the same player who won the league's MVP award in 2005. "Speed, explosiveness and quickness ...," Alexander said. "I don't think that will be an issue." Alexander added, "I'm so hungry," he said. "I'm confident I can still do some productive things in the NFL. I've still got gas in the tank. Some team will be pleasantly surprised when I get there."

Alexander is viewed throughout the league as a "stop-gap" solution for a team that suffers from a catastrophic injury or has a roster full of underperforming backs during the preseason.
