Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves will meet with team president Michael Bidwell early Monday, Dec. 31, to discuss the future of the franchise. The Cardinals are expected by many in the league, and within the club, to seriously consider replacing Graves with Steve Keim, the team's vice president of player personnel. Meanwhile, if the Cardinals want to fire Whisenhunt, they must pay his 2013 salary, believed to exceed $5 million.

"If he is interested, we're appreciative, but right now, we're focused on the guys that we have here. QB Matt Leinart has done a great job so far, but so has QB Derek Anderson and our young guys (QBs Max Hall and John Skelton)."

Wood had been negotiating a long-term contract for Dansby with Cardinals general manager Rod Graves and the framework of a deal was in place according to sources. It is not known who Dansby's new agent will be or how this will affect the negotiations.

Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals appear closer to a deal with impending free-agent QB Kurt Warner. General manager Rod Graves and Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein, have spoken several times at the NFL Scouting Combine. It appears the two sides have narrowed the gap, at least a little. Bartelstein is believed to be seeking a deal that would put Warner among the top five highest paid quarterbacks in the league, but the Cardinals would like to stay in the $10 million range.

Bartelstein said Thursday, Feb. 12, he has spoken to general manger Rod Graves by phone a couple of times this week and that the two will "probably get together next week." Bartelstein stopped short of saying Warner has ruled out retiring, but he said, "I think he would like to play. He loves to compete."

Updating a previous report, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Drew Rosenhaus, agent for Arizona Cardinals RB Edgerrin James, said he asked for the release because James was not playing and could go to a team that needs a running back. "We spoke with [general manager Rod Graves] because Edgerrin still believes he is a 1,000-yard back and he is healthy and he is still capable of being a 1,000-yard back for a team," Rosenhaus said. "He is not playing now, and there are teams that are banged up at the running back position that he could help. We didn't get the answer we were hoping for."

Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals, who hold the fifth overall pick, are considering trading down in the NFL Draft. Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves said trading the pick is a "50-50 option" at this point. Graves also said, "If we do look at that alternative, we don't want to go so far back as to take ourselves out of an opportunity for what we think could be an impact player. And, in addition to that, the compensation to do so would certainly have to be worth it."
