Redskins | Pierre Thomas an option for Washington

Tue, 24 May 2016 21:51:30 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Redskins) is still receiving interest from the Washington Redskins, but Thomas may want to wait until the season begins before signing with a team like he did last season.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas recorded 52 rushing yards and 84 receiving yards in limited playing time with the Redskins in 2016. He could re-sign with the Redskins but likely would not have much fantasy value in most leagues.

Redskins | Pierre Thomas could return

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 17:48:32 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Redskins) has maintained contact with the Washington Redskins this offseason, but he probably would not re-sign until after the 2016 NFL Draft if the team wants him back.

Washington Redskins RB Pierre Thomas is not ready to retire and wants to return to the Redskins next season. Thomas said he is listening to his body, and his body is telling him he can still play. Redskins | Matt Jones iffy for Sunday

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 16:48:59 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 7, and he said that he "probably" wouldn't be able to play if the team's game was on Thursday. "I can run and do drills, but certain moves, I can't make," Jones said. "I'm still trying to find if I can play through it or not. If I do a cut and feel it, I'm going to try to see if I can push through it and tolerate it to see." RB Pierre Thomas was used as the backup to RB Alfred Morris the last two weeks, while RB Chris Thompson also saw limited work. Head coach Jay Gruden expects to make a decision on Jones either Friday, Jan. 8, or Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is extremely risky on FantasyScore. He hasn't played in the last two weeks, and the 'Skins play the last game of wild-card weekend. Alfred Morris ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) gains some intrigue as an under-the-radar play as a result. Thomas ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) are stabs in the dark as deep sleepers.

Redskins | Pierre Thomas may play in Week 14

Sat, 12 Dec 2015 08:39:52 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Pierre Thomas could receive some playing time against the Chicago Bears in Week 14 even though he joined the team earlier this week and participated in one practice, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas probably would see limited snaps since he has not learned the offense but could be used on third downs as a receiver out of the backfield. Owners should avoid him this season, but he could be an option later in the season.

49ers | Pierre Thomas released

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 08:57:37 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Pierre Thomas was released Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: The writing may be on the wall for Thomas, who wasn't able to fit into a dire running back situation. He's a name to keep an eye on if he resurfaces, but his fantasy value is on life support at this stage.

49ers | SF likely to use three RB attack

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 19:49:05 -0800

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to use RBs Kendall Gaskins, Shaun Draughn and Pierre Thomas as their three running backs for the Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: Gaskins ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is probably your best bet for FantasyScore usage or in standard fantasy formats, if you need to save a little salary and want to take a chance. He knows the system much better than newcomers Draughn and Thomas.

49ers | Pierre Thomas replacing Reggie Bush

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 11:52:18 -0800

San Francisco 49ers RB Pierre Thomas is essentially taking over for RB Reggie Bush (knee) as San Francisco's passing-down back. Thomas caught 45 passes last season, averaging 8.4 yards per catch.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas could be used more than people expect in order to give new starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert a safer passing outlet. If you're shallow at running back, Thomas is worth a pickup in seasonal leagues.

49ers | Pierre Thomas joins 49ers

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 08:03:32 -0800

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) signed with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas could figure into the backfield situation with Kendall Gaskins quickly if Carlos Hyde (foot) is out an extended period. Keep him on your watch list this week against the Atlanta Falcons, but he could be a matchup play in a couple of weeks.

Texans | Houston offered Pierre Thomas minimum

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 06:26:07 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) turned down a one-year, $870,000 offer from the Houston Texans last week, according to sources. The two sides could revisit talks.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas would have been a good fit, but he didn't want to sign for the veteran's minimum. He's worth watching for a late RB5 flyer in fantasy drafts.

Texans | Pierre Thomas will not join Houston

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 09:40:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) was unable to reach an agreement with the Houston Texans after his visit with the team Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas was expected to sign with the Texans, but he will look to join another team. He probably will not be able to find a starting job, which will hurt his fantasy value. Alfred Blue is the Texans' top running back at the moment and could be a middle- to late-round option if he keeps the job, but the team is expected to acquire another running back.

Texans | Pierre Thomas to sign with Houston

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 08:26:19 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) will sign with the Houston Texans after a successful tryout Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas is an accomplished receiver out of the backfield and could rise up the depth chart in camp to share work with Alfred Blue. He turns 31 in December, so the upside is limited, but he's worth a low-end RB4 grab.

Texans | Pierre Thomas to work out Wednesday

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 15:49:37 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) is on his way to visit the Houston Texans Tuesday, Aug. 4, and he is expected to work out for the team Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas had his worst statistical season since 2010 last year, although he was limited to just 11 games. Thomas will help fill in for Arian Foster in the passing game in Houston, and he'll be a worthy flier late in standard drafts, with more value in PPR leagues.

NFL | Pierre Thomas' hands among the best

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 19:35:20 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) ranked seventh among running backs with 45 catches last season, and only Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell and Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy graded higher at catching the ball, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas' fantasy value is currently in limbo, but if he lands with a team that needs a reliable third-down back, he could be worth a late-round flier in PPR leagues.

Redskins | Washington looking at Pierre Thomas

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 10:09:58 -0700

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) has drawn some interest from the Washington Redskins as they look to give competition to RBs Chris Thompson and Silas Redd for the third-down role, according to a source. However, Washington will likely see what's available in the draft before proceeding with Thomas. Among the options the Redskins could look at in the draft are Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah, Northern Iowa RB David Johnson, Miami (Fla.) RB Duke Johnson, South Carolina RB Mike Davis and Alabama RB T.J. Yeldon.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas could be an intriguing fantasy option if he lands with the Redskins, because the team plans to utilize the ground game often. However, his value would be clouded if Thompson took valuable third-down touches away. Stay tuned on where Thomas lands in free agency.

Saints | Three RBs on Saints' roster

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 16:29:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Pierre Thomas' (Saints) release by the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, March 4, will save $1.735 million against the salary cap, and he carries an $830,000 "dead money" charge. Thomas would have counted $2.565 million against the salary cap this year. The Saints currently have three running backs on roster: RBs Khiry Robinson, Edwin Baker and Tim Hightower. RBs Travaris Cadet and Mark Ingram are both scheduled to be free agents.

Fantasy Tip: The release of PT cruiser isn't unexpected, since his role had quickly diminished over the last couple of seasons. If Ingram isn't re-signed, Robinson will have a clear path to the lead-back duties in New Orleans. And in an offense as potent as this, that'll make him very intriguing to fantasy football owners. Robinson could head into 2015 as a low-end RB1.

Saints | Pierre Thomas released

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 15:47:40 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas was released Wednesday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: If impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram leaves, Khiry Robinson should take the reins as the Saints' primary running back and could garner RB2 consideration in standard scoring formats. Robinson played in just 10 games in 2014 but was productive when he did, averaging 4.8 yards on 76 carries with three touchdowns in a time split with Ingram and Thomas.

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 11:55:39 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (ribs) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Dec. 26.

Fantasy Tip: With Thomas gone for the year, Mark Ingram should get more work in Week 17, and is a decent starting option for FantasyScore players this week.

Saints | Pierre Thomas sits out

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 16:37:01 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (ribs) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: It does not look like Thomas will be able to play in Week 17, but owners should monitor the situation to see if things change. Mark Ingram could receive more playing time if Thomas misses the game and could be a good starting option at FantasyScore.

Saints | Pierre Thomas doesn't practice

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 13:07:10 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (ribs) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on his status throughout the week, but if Thomas is unable to play, Mark Ingram ($5,555) would make a decent start with a good matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are allowing over 100 yards per game to running backs.

Sun, 21 Dec 2014 11:37:23 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (ribs) left the team's Week 16 game early after injuring his ribs and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Mark Ingram and Travaris Cadet likely will receive more work if Thomas is out for the rest of the game. Cadet could be a sleeper option on FantasyScore next week if Thomas is not able to play.

Saints | Khiry Robinson to be eased back in

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 14:51:17 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Khiry Robinson (forearm), who is expected to return in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers, is expected to be eased back into the backfield, especially since RB Mark Ingram has done well in a leading role. RB Pierre Thomas also returned a week ago. Ingram rushed 23 times for 122 yards in the Week 13 win, which was his fourth 100-yard game with Robinson out. Robinson was running well before he was hurt, and his 5.2 yards per carry rank second in the league if he was eligible.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers present a juicy matchup for the Saints running backs. Unfortunately, it won't be wise to use Robinson, even at what should be a cheap FantasyScore price, until he's back in the running back rotation receiving substantial touches.

Saints | Pierre Thomas probable for Week 13

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 15:19:04 -0800

New Orleans Saints Pierre Thomas (ribs, shoulder) is probable for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas still has more value in point-per-reception leagues as he proved last week with six catches for 37 yards. At $5,200 on FantasyScore he might be worth the investment in what could be a shootout.

Saints | Saints' top three RBs back on the field

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 13:59:50 -0800

New Orleans Saints RBs Mark Ingram (shoulder), RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) and RB Travaris Cadet (hamstring) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram likely will receive most of his work in the running game in Week 13 while Thomas probably will be used more in the passing game. Cadet will also see some playing time. Ingram ($6,600) and Thomas ($5,200) are options on FantasyScore, but owners may want to lower their expectations since the Pittsburgh Steelers defense has recently played well against opposing running backs.

Saints | Saints' top three RBs practice

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 15:10:14 -0800

New Orleans Saints RBs Mark Ingram (shoulder), Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) and Travaris Cadet (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Ingram probably will continue to receive a majority of the carries with Thomas being more involved in the passing game. Cadet probably will receive time if one of the other running backs needs a break. Ingram costs $6,600 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to lower their expectations since the Pittsburgh Steelers have held opposing running backs in check over the last four weeks. Thomas costs $5,200 and could be a flex option because of his receiving ability. Owners should not consider using Cadet even though he only costs $3,200.

Saints | Pierre Thomas probable

Sat, 22 Nov 2014 11:54:55 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) was limited in practice Saturday, Nov. 22, and is probable for Monday night's tilt with the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has more value in point-per-reception leagues but could be limited in his return and is a risky start at $5,200 on FantasyScore, especially with Travaris Cadet still expected to play.

Saints | Pierre Thomas, Travaris Cadet limited

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 13:24:23 -0800

New Orleans Saints RBs Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) and Travaris Cadet (hamstring) were both limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21. Cadet did not practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,200) is the more expensive FantasyScore option, while Cadet costs just $3,200. Both players will likely be questionable for Monday night's tilt with the Baltimore Ravens, meaning it's probably safer to just avoid both.

Saints | Pierre Thomas limited Thursday

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 14:28:54 -0800

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20. Thomas has missed the last four games, but he said there's a chance that he plays in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like PT Cruiser will be questionable for Monday night's game, which means you should look to avoid him for your FantasyScore lineups. Mark Ingram ($6,600) will see most of the backfield work again, but he faces a very tough matchup in the Ravens run defense.

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and has been ruled out for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for when Thomas will be able to return to the field. Travaris Cadet likely will continue to fill in as the running back in passing situations and could be a cheap flex option on FantasyScore at $3,200.

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 15:01:47 -0800

New Orleans Saints RBs Pierre Thomas (shoulder, rib) and Khiry Robinson (arm) were both absent from practice again Thursday, Nov. 13. Both players are long shots to play in Week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Thomas did some individual work Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas ($5,200) and Robinson ($4,000) need to be avoided at all costs at FantasyScore. Mark Ingram ($6,700) should continue to see the bulk of the carries, making him a solid option. Don't forget about Travaris Cadet ($3,200), either.

Fantasy Tip: Mark Ingram ($6,100; 12.2% of your cap) faces a tough matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but they'll be without Patrick Willis (toe). Ingram will have a heavy workload, but Travaris Cadet ($3,300; 6.6%) could pitch in on passing downs. Ingram is a decent RB2 on FantasyScore.

New Orleans Saints RBs Khiry Robinson (forearm) and Pierre Thomas (shoulder) are both inactive in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Oct. 30.

Fantasy Tip: With both Robinson and Thomas out, Mark Ingram ($6,100; 12.2% of cap), who had a monster Week 8, should be in your lineups against the Panthers. Travaris Cadet ($3,300) isn't a bad option in PPR leagues such as FantasyScore, either.

New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (rib, shoulder) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 27. This is an estimation since the team did not practice Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas should stay on the bench since he likely will miss the game. Mark Ingram rushed for 172 yards in Week 8 and likely will continue to receive most of the carries, while Travaris Cadet will be used mostly as a receiver.
