Scott Gutierrez, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports former NFL DL Chad Eaton's wife was arrested on suspicion of punching her husband in the nose, according to court record. She could be charged with domestic violence after police arrived at Chad Eaton's home to find him bleeding after getting punched in the nose. Eaton's wife admitted to deputies the she struck her husband because she thought he was cheating on her. She was booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and released without bail after a court appearance Monday, Aug. 14.

Chad Eaton and Henry Thomas are no longer with the club, leaving Garrett Johnson as the only player listed at nose tackle. Personnel director Scott Pioli indicated the team will bring in a veteran to compete for the spot, but the market is thin at that position.

The team has been hesitant to pay big money for free agent defensive linemen, but Seymour is a differenet story. Philadelphia drafted DT Corey Simon sixth, the same spot as Seymour in last year's draft. Seymour will be looking for more than the five-year contract worth $10.7 million and a $6.2 million signing bonus that Simon received last season. Seymour likely will play at Brandon Mitchell's tackle spot instead of Chad Eaton's spot at nose tackle.

An announcement by the team was not expected before Robertson signed the contract. "I think Mike Holmgren is finally going to be putting his football team on the field," Robertson said, "and we all know you have to be excited about that." Robertson, DL John Randle and Chad Eaton along with LB Levon Kirkland will only count for $7.11 million of the $67.4 million allotted by the NFL under the salary cap in 2001. Up next for Holmgren via free agency could be a decision on WR Jerry Rice and the possibility of adding him to a thin Seattle receiving group.

Scott M. Johnson reports for the Herald the expectations of the Seattle Seahawks defense are going to be very high after the additions of DTs John Randle and Chad Eaton and LB Levon Kirkland. "We have improved ourselves immensely," defensive coordinator Steve Sidwell said. In Randle, Eaton and Kirkland, the Seahawks have added 24 years of NFL service, eight Pro Bowl appearances and a wealth of playoff experience. The team allowed 2,454 rushing yards last season, something that should change in 2001. The three signed players also bring a lot of leadership to the team. Currently, coach/GM Mike Holmgren has set his sights on a veteran free safety - most likely Miami's Brock Marion or Tennessee's Marcus Robertson. One other need - another starting CB to join Shawn Springs.

Coach/GM Mike Holmgren sees them as a welcome addition to the team. "The team is going to have a little different look, particularly on defense," Holmgren proclaimed Thursday. The Post Intelligencer reports about 40 Seattle Seahawks players were on the field for the first day of voluntary camp yesterday. Recent free agent signings, DTs Chad Eaton and John Randle were there while RB Ricky Watters and LB Chad Brown, notified coach Mike Holmgren they would not be participating. CB Fred Vinson, attempting a comeback from a torn ligament in his right knee was on the field. Vinson said he felt rusty. Holmgren and new QBs coach Jim Zorn are working with QB Matt Hasselbeck to reduce the amount of motion in his setup and release. "We're going to work real hard on his technique," Holmgren said. QB Brock Huard is trying to put a rash of bad things behind him so he can be ready to be the team's No. 2 QB. He said his brother Damon expected to be released by the Dolphins so it came as no big shock to either of the brothers when Miami released Damon Huard yesterday.
