The Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers have released QB Brett Basanez, RB DeCori Birmingham, S Joe Fields, FB Troy Fleming, WR Chris Hannon, DT Nick Hayden, OG Evan Mathis, DE Stanley McClover, OG Reuben Riley, OT Geoffrey Schwartz, LB Tim Shaw, CB Darren Toney, TE Chad Upshaw and DL Stephen Williams from the team. The team also terminated the contracts of OG Milford Brown, CB Ricardo Colclough, OG Toniu Fonoti, S Terrence Holt, WR Samie Parker, WR Travis Taylor and RB LaBrandon Toefield.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Buffalo TE Chad Upshaw measured a height of 6-foot-4 1/2 and a weight of 239 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds and 4.75 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.46 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.00 seconds. He measured a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-10 broad jump.
