Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said LBs Geno Hayes and Nick Roach will compete for the starting strongside linebacker job during training camp. He will also be the backup at weakside linebacker.

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with free-agent LB Geno Hayes (Buccaneers) Thursday, April 19. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Bears could put Hayes in a position to compete with strongside LB Nick Roach.

Chicago Bears LB Nick Roach has seen his playing time increase to approximately 40-45 plays in a given week over the past month, and he might be busy again in Week 14 against the Denver Broncos. "We always in the linebacker room enjoy the challenge of a good rushing team because they're going to test our rules," Roach said Friday, Dec. 9. "Plus, it's always a challenge to face really good players like (RB Willis McGahee) who's having an excellent year and has been put in a smart scheme that features the power run game."
