Wed, 19 Dec 2012 15:39:42 -0800 San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner didn't reveal his plans at running back in Week 16 after RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) was placed on the Injured Reserve. "Well, we've got a chance to get Ronnie Brown back" Turner said. "Jackie Battle will get a chance to play. And Brink (Curtis Brinkley ) played some yesterday, though I don't know that he would play on third down. And we'll probably add Edwin Baker to the 53-man roster. I don't know that he would be active, but we'd have to see where Ronnie Brown is."
Wed, 19 Dec 2012 05:51:05 -0800 San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said RB Jackie Battle will get a chance to play in Week 16, and appeared to favor him over RB Curtis Brinkley.
Sun, 16 Dec 2012 20:14:42 -0800 San Diego Chargers RB Curtis Brinkley had six carries for 42 yards in the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers, while RB Jackie Battle had three totes for just two yards. Fantasy Tip: Brinkley and Battle will likely split up the carries if RB Ronnie Brown (hamstring) cannot play in Week 16. That's because RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) left Sunday's game with a season-ending injury. Brinkley might get first crack after looking more impressive after Mathews left the game, but both he and Battle are only worth a look as a flex play at best in deeper leagues in Week 16. Even that is a bit risky at this juncture of the fantasy season.
Fri, 05 Oct 2012 16:11:41 -0700 San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said isn't revealing who will start at running back between RBs Ryan Mathews and Jackie Battle until the first play of the game in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. "It's not a big deal. One had 14 carries and one had 15 carries, and if we can get that done again, it'll be outstanding," Turner said.
Wed, 03 Oct 2012 12:22:15 -0700 Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle is listed as the starting running back on the depth chart at this point but a team spokesperson said that is only because Battle started in Week 4. The team still has confidence in RB Ryan Mathews and it likely will not take long before Mathews is listed as the starter again.
Wed, 03 Oct 2012 12:15:22 -0700 San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle is now listed as the No. 1 running back over RB Ryan Mathews on the team's depth chart. Fantasy Tip: A follow-up report noted a team spokesperson saying that Battle was listed as No. 1 on the Web site because he "just started last week, so that's why he's there." This alone should remind you about the fluidity of Norv Turner's backfield.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 13:57:33 -0700 San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said he started RB Jackie Battle in Week 4 because he thought Battle gave the team the best chance to win. Turner said he was not trying to send RB Ryan Mathews a message by not starting him.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 10:04:18 -0700 San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews did not start in the team's Week 4 win, as RB Jackie Battle started the game. Mathews did not play at all in the third quarter, and he had just four carries by the start of the fourth quarter. However, he was featured in the fourth with 10 carries for 60 yards, in addition to an eight-yard reception. Head coach Norv Turner said after the game he has "great trust" in Mathews. Fantasy Tip: It's clear the team was sending Mathews a message following his costly fumble in Week 3. Despite coming off the bench in Week 4, Mathews finished with a team-high 61 rushing yards. Owners should continue to monitor this situation. If Mathews can protect the football, he will remain the starting back. Battle, however, could see more carries as he was solid in Week 4 with 81 total yards and a pair of scores, in addition to four receptions.
Sun, 30 Sep 2012 14:06:41 -0700 San Diego Chargers RB Jackie Battle rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also caught four passes for 42 yards and one touchdown in the game.
Fri, 07 Sep 2012 18:12:18 -0700 San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (clavicle) appears to be targeting a Week 2 return, so RB Ronnie Brown is likely to get the start in his team debut in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders Monday, Sept. 10. RBs Jackie Battle and Curtis Brinkley are also in the mix. Fantasy Tip: Brown might be a decent one-week RB3 or 'flex' fantasy play, especially if you were holding out hope for Mathews, but don't add Brown in place of a player with longer term value to your squad.
