Texans | J.J. Watt uncertain about return date

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 12:53:40 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) acknowledged Sunday, July 31, he isn't certain when he'll return from back surgery. "I can't put a solid start date on when I can play. … I don't plan on missing my first game, but I can't promise it. … I feel good. My body feels good. It is just a matter of listening to (the doctors). I'll do whatever they tell me to do," Watt told HoustonTexans.com. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Sunday that Watt is "on the right track," but the Texans have no intention to rush the three-time Defensive Player of the Year back onto the field.

Texans | Tom Savage eyeing starting QB job

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:42:29 -0800

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is intent on winning the starting job, especially in the wake of the news that team owner Bob McNair has reportedly made it very clear to general manager Rick Smith and head coach Bill O'Brien that the Texans replace Brian Hoyer.

Fantasy Tip: There seems to be some thought that Savage will compete with a first- or second-round rookie for the starting job in training camp. The loser of that competition would then fall behind Hoyer, who the Texans seem to like in a backup role. Even in O'Brien's quarterback-friendly system, Savage or the yet-to-be-named rookie would likely be little more than a low-end QB2 at best in 2016.

Texans | Brian Hoyer unlikely to be Week 1 starter

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 11:21:52 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is unlikely to begin next season as the starter. Team owner Bob McNair has all but publicly demanded general manager Rick Smith and head coach Bill O'Brien replace the journeyman.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer melted down in the Texans' playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which was probably the final straw for McNair. Houston has been linked to almost every potential free-agent quarterback - such as Robert Griffin III - to most of the top signal-callers available in the draft that could be on the board at pick No. 22, such as Memphis' Paxton Lynch or Michigan State's Connor Cook. Either way, fantasy owners should expect Hoyer to holding a clipboard for most of 2016.
