Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana (concussion) has been placed on the seven-day disabled list because of a slight concussion. In corresponding moves, the team has purchased the contract of C Luke Carlin from Triple-A Columbus and transferred RP Rafael Perez (lat) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: With the move happening over the weekend, Santana will miss the upcoming week of play. Make sure to remove him from your lineups. Replacement catcher Lou Marson has limited value, particularly only for those playing in AL-only setups.

The Cleveland Indians optioned P Nick Hagadone and INF Russ Canzler to Triple-A Columbus Friday, March 30, and assigned C Luke Carlin, INF Andy LaRoche and Ps Chris Seddon, Chris Ray and Robinson Tejeda to minor league camp.

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta is looking for a third catcher in case of injury. Cs Luke Carlin, Chun-Hsiu Chen, Michel Hernandez and Matt Pagnozzi are all in camp as spring training invitees. Cs Carlos Santana and Lou Marson are the top two catchers on the depth chart.

Cleveland Indians Cs Luke Carlin, Lou Marson and Paul Phillips are battling for the backup catcher job behind starter Carlos Santana, reports Owen Perkins, of MLB.com. Marson might have the leg up due to his strong defensive skills, although Phillips is making it hard with a .409 batting average (9-for-22) through eight spring games.
