The Associated Press reports the San Diego Chargers have returned RB Ronney Jenkins to running back, due to the injury to RB LaDainian Tomlinson. Jenkins had been switched to wide receiver in the off-season. "He is not getting enough reps at wide receiver right now, and we're going to let him go back and work at the running backs position,'' coach Marty Schottenheimer said. ``He's part of our plans, so we will just continue to work with him and get him opportunities."

David Hammel reports for the North County Times San Diego Chargers RB Ronney Jenkins is in the process of converting to being a WR for the team. "When you think a lot, you don't catch the ball," said Jenkins, who is receiving mentoring tips from WR Curtis Conway. "I'm a lot more comfortable now than when I first made the switch. It was a big transition." The plan is to get Jenkins more involved in the offense. Head coach Marty Schottenheimer thinks Jenkins is too explosive not to be on the field.

The Chargers’ first option for filling Fletcher’s role would be to keep LaDainian Tomlinson in on passing situations. Ronney Jenkins could be used at running back in some situations. RB Ronney Jenkins finished with 35 yards on 11 carries with a long run of 11. The team averaged 3.1 yards per carry last night. They had five yards rushing in the third quarter.

Starting QB Doug Flutie threw a 7-yard pass to WR Curtis Conway. RB Ronney Jenkins scored on a 29-yard run. For the 49ers starting QB Jeff Garcia threw a 16-yard TD pass to rookie WR Cedrick Wilson. RB Terry Jackson had 12-yard run for a TD and WR Dwight Carter had a TD catch. RB Garrison Hearst started and finished with 9 yards on 5 carries. He caught one pass for 15 yards.

Fortin previously had been forced to watch from the sidelines since the start of camp while rehabbing from off-season surgery on both knees. On Monday he only did light work. Fortin is a little ahead of schedule in his rehab. DL Adrian Dingle and Mike Pringley were able to return to the morning practice today. QB Dave Dickenson, RB Ronney Jenkins, FB/TE Marty Maurer, CB Alex Molden, LB Sam Rogers and DT Scott Shultz also were back on the field this morning. WR Jeff Graham returned as well. He had been at memorial services for the late Korey Stringer.

CB DeRon Jenkins (dislocated finger) plans to take a coritsone shot and have his finger taped up this weekend so he can play.
