New York Jets general manager John Idzik said the team has received calls from other teams that are interested in trading up in the first round but does not expect serious talks to occur until Thursday, April 25. "I think the real substantive talks will come tomorrow," Idzik said. "I think we're in a position at No. 9 and No. 13 in the first round to get two really good players, but it also opens up the gates for potential alternatives, potentially trading down and picking up more players. We'll be open minded about it. This is a very deep draft."

New York Jets general manager John Idzik is willing to wait until the NFL Draft, perhaps longer, before pulling the trigger on a deal for CB Darrelle Revis, according to sources; however, a soft deadline is approaching. If Revis is on the Jets' roster Saturday, March 16, he will earn a $1 million roster bonus. "One million is a pittance in the big picture when you're talking about a player of Revis' stature and the compensation he could bring," a league source said. "Don't be foolish with something like that."

The most likely candidates are LB David Harris (team-high $13 million cap charge), WR Santonio Holmes ($12.5 million), CB Antonio Cromartie ($10.8 million), OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson ($10.7 million) and DT Sione Pouha ($6.2 million). QB Mark Sanchez ($12.9 million) could also be a candidate; however, it doesn't make sense to push his money into future years, considering his tenuous position on the team.

"I reached out to Darrelle and I made sure he knew exactly where we were coming from and that this is my first day on the job," Idzik said, "and our message to everyone was, 'Give us a chance to get to know each other and introduce ourselves to each other.' A lot of the people in the building you know through football circles but you've never worked along side each other. So give us that chance and give us the chance to go through our current roster, ultimately that's the basis of comparison to whatever you may contemplate doing. We haven't taken that first step and that's what I relayed to Darrelle."

Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports the Seattle Seahawks are expected to announce the hiring of John Idzik to their front office Friday, Feb. 16. Idzik has served as the senior director of football operations with the Arizona Cardinals for the past three seasons. Idzik is expected to perform similar duties with the Seahawks as a chief contract negotiator and salary cap manager.
