CFL | Flutie closes door on return Fri, 18 Aug 2006 16:10:29 -0700 The Canadian Press reports QB Doug Flutie closed the door Friday, Aug. 18, on a return to the CFL. Flutie admitted while his close friendship with Toronto Argonauts head coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons tempted him to return to the Argonauts earlier this month, he's very content to remain in retirement. "I was tempted only because of the friendship that we have and I love the game up there and it would have been an opportunity to say goodbye to the CFL," Flutie said Friday during a conference call.
CFL | Flutie almost returned to Toronto; talks may happen again Sat, 22 Jul 2006 18:19:30 -0700 The Canadian Press reports QB Doug Flutie almost returned to the CFL's Toronto Argonauts last week before having a change of heart. A league source requesting anonymity said Flutie had a plane ticket for Toronto and was scheduled to practice with the Argos last Sunday, July 16, before talks between himself and the Argos broke down. The source also said the plan was for Doug Flutie to re-sign with Toronto and serve as quarterback insurance while QB Damon Allen recovers from a broken finger on his passing hand. The source added that Flutie was aware he would only remain with the CFL club until Allen was healthy enough to resume playing. Talk of Flutie's potential return to Toronto is certainly likely to heat up once again with the devastating injury to Argos starting QB Spergon Wynn in Saturday's game, July 22, versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Wynn's helmet flew off from the impact of a helmet-to-helmet hit, leaving his head uncovered as he was taken down hard on to the turf at Mosaic Stadium.
