Saints | Drew Brees' money guaranteed

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 13:22:30 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees had $10.85 million of his $20 million salary guaranteed Wednesday, Feb. 10, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: There wasn't really any doubt that Brees was coming back to the bayou. He remains one of the most consistent and reliable fantasy and real-life quarterbacks. Continue to draft him as a top starting fantasy quarterback.

Saints | Drew Brees extension before free agency?

Mon, 08 Feb 2016 14:29:12 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees may receive a contract extension before the start of free agency March 15. Extending Brees before free agency begins would give the Saints the ability to use the extension to cut down Brees' salary-cap cost for 2016. New Orleans is currently $10 million over the projected salary cap.

Fantasy Tip: Brees and the Saints had not begun negotiations as of Feb. 4, but those negotiations should begin in the near future. Brees is still one of the best passers in the NFL and deserves a contract extension, which could solidify him staying in New Orleans for the rest of his career. He's a QB1 once again heading into next season.

Saints | No talks for Drew Brees yet

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 13:52:52 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said any conversations with the Saints regarding a contract extension have not happened yet.

Fantasy Tip: There's still plenty of time for Brees and the Saints to get an extension done. Even if he doesn't sign an extension this year, he'll likely still be quarterbacking the Saints in 2016. It's hard to believe an extension isn't in the cards for Brees, though. Draft him as a QB1 again this year.

Saints | Drew Brees still idle

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 07:23:35 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) is still resting his torn plantar fascia in his right foot, but he's close to full strength.

Fantasy Tip: Brees will remain one of the upper-middle options at quarterback in the 2016 fantasy season.

Saints | Drew Brees could sign extension

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 10:51:06 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees could sign a multi-year extension this offseason and still save the Saints millions against their cap, according to ESPN.com's Mike Triplett.

Fantasy Tip: It's somewhat of a complicated situation, but Brees' contract could be structured so that it saves the Saints money against their salary cap over the next few years. The bottom line is that he'll probably still be playing in New Orleans next season. He had somewhat of an underachieving 2015 campaign by his standards, but he's still a QB1.

Saints | Drew Brees not going anywhere

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 14:40:42 -0800

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis reiterated that QB Drew Brees will remain with the organization. Brees turns 37 Friday, Jan. 15, and will count $30 million against the 2016 salary cap in the final year of his contract. Loomis said Brees won't be released or traded. The only thing undecided is whether Brees will play out the last year of his deal or if the Saints will look at an extension. Brees is due $20 million in salary and bonuses this year. New Orleans is projected to be around $10 million over the projected salary cap of $150 million.

Fantasy Tip: Brees had a fine season in 2015, throwing for 4,870 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The fact that Sean Payton will stick around is a positive for the quarterback, as well. Brees can remain in QB1 territory, but keep in mind the fact that he isn't getting any younger.

Saints | Drew Brees ready in four to five weeks?

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 16:57:03 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) said he should be fine in four to five weeks after visiting a doctor Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Fantasy Tip: The initial timetable for Brees' recovery was four to six weeks, so this doesn't really change much. He'll obviously be ready to go for offseason activities unless he suffers any setbacks. Continue to view him as a QB1.

Saints | Drew Brees likely to remain starting QB

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 12:32:40 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees should still be the starting quarterback under retained head coach Sean Payton, according to Payton.

Fantasy Tip: The Saints had an off year and Payton was involved in the coaching carousel for a while, but now that Payton is returning and Brees has several months to recover from a torn plantar fascia and a season of being banged up, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that the Payton-Brees combo would return. Brees still led the league in passing yards this season and he's a QB1 for next season, too.

Saints | Drew Brees won't need surgery

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 12:32:54 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (foot, shoulder) will not need surgery for the torn plantar fascia in his right heel or for the shoulder injury he suffered earlier this season. The plan is for Brees to rest four to six weeks before beginning football and training activity, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Brees will obviously be ready to play next offseason, unless he suffers any setbacks. Despite the injuries Brees has dealt with, he still led the league in passing yards in 2015 (4,870). As is the case every year, he should be viewed as a QB1 in next season's drafts.

Saints | Drew Brees finishes strong

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 15:24:42 -0800

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees finished 32 of 42 for 323 yards and one touchdown in a 20-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Brees salvaged an 8-8 season for the Saints, and he is likely to return to New Orleans in 2016. He's already told reporters he doesn't want to go anywhere else. There were a couple of bad games for the Saints in 2015 and games where Brees had an off day. He should rebound well next year.
