Pittsburgh Pirates P Serguey Linares has been reassigned to minor league camp, according to Justice B. Hill of Pittsburgh.Pirates.MLB.com.

Pittsburgh Pirates P Serguey Linares has not yet reported to spring training, because of difficulty in securing a U.S. work visa, according to the Associated Press. Linares is currently in the Dominican Republic, and general manager Dave Littlefield offered no timetable for his arrival.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic reports Pittsburgh Pirates P Serguey Linares, the Cuban defector signed by the Pirates to a minor-league contract, received $125,000 in guaranteed money. Baseball America magazine said that Linares had agreed to a $460,000 deal with the Boston Red Sox in October, but he did not pass the Red Sox's physical because of a slightly torn rotator cuff due to an abnormal bone growth in his right shoulder.

According to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic, the Pittsburgh Pirates signed P Senguay Linares to a minor-league contract on Feb. 4. Linares is a Cuban defector who has not performed in competitive baseball since 2005.
