The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego Chargers OT Vaughn Parker said he has requested his release from the team because the two sides are far apart on a restructured contract. The Chargers told Parker they want him to play for the veteran league minimum of $760,000, rather than for the $3.5 million he is scheduled to make this year in the final year of his contract.

Jay Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers OT Vaughn Parker (knee) underwent surgery Tuesday, Sept. 23, to repair torn ligaments in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season. Parker tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his knee early in the fourth quarter of the Sunday, Sept. 21, game against the Baltimore Ravens. Dr. David Chao, the Chargers' team physician, repaired the ligaments in an arthroscopic procedure. The club said the recovery period would be 4-6 months, and Parker is expected to be placed on injured reserve later this week.

Jim Trotter, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers OT Vaughn Parker (knee) will miss the Sunday, Sept. 28, game against the Oakland Raiders because of ligament damage in his right knee. Parker was injured in the fourth quarter of the Sunday, Sept. 21, game against the Baltimore Ravens and did not return to the game. "It looks like he's got a knee injury of some consequence, the full extent of it, at this point, I don't know for sure," Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer said. If the damage is limited to the medial collateral ligament, Parker probably would return this season. However, if it's the anterior cruciate ligament, his season likely would be over.

Jim Trotter of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer was extremely disappointed with the play of the Chargers' offensive line Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. "We were physically beaten on a number of occasions," said Schottenheimer. Chargers OT Damion McIntosh was beaten for three first-half sacks by Chiefs DE Vonnie Holliday, and the right-side tandem of OG Solomon Page and OT Vaughn Parker, along with FB Lorenzo Neal, was unable to get enough push for RB LaDainian Tomlinson to pick up first downs on short-yardage siutations. The failure to convert the rushes was particularly painful for Schottenheimer because he made his coaching reputation playing power football. But the inability to protect QB Drew Brees consistently was bothersome because Schottenheimer said the team will need an efficient passing game to have any shot at reaching the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

The team plans to leave their offensive line intact which means Vaughn Parker at left tackle and Ed Ellis at right. Former starting LT Damion McIntosh has been battling the flu bug. FB Fred McCrary (hip) returned to practice today. WR Curtis Conway, and LBs Junior Seau and Gerald Dixon all missed Thursday's practice while attending the funeral for WR Jeff Graham's father, Walter. It still appears Graham will miss Sunday's game.
