Updating previous reports, Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports the Arizona Cardinals have until Tuesday, Nov. 4, to decide the roster status of OG Raleigh Roundtree. Roundtree, who has been on the non-football/injury list all season, has been practicing and feels he is healthy enough to make the team. "I think they want to watch me and see how I react to the two weeks of practice," Roundtree said. "I feel good now."

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals OL Raleigh Roundtree (spleen surgery) is officially on the three-week clock after six weeks on the PUP list. The Cards must make a decision by Nov. 2 if he is on active roster or on IR. Roundtree still is not practicing.

The Arizona Republic reports Arizona Cardinals OL Raleigh Roundtree (spleen) will undergo surgery Thursday, July 31 for an enlarged spleen, which has sidelined him for all of camp. The genetic condition is thought to be hereditary. The discovery was made after Roundtree's son went in for a checkup and was found to have an enlarged spleen. Tests on Roundtree found that he had the same condition.

Roundtree will be paid the league-minimum $525,000 in salary this year, but only $450,000 of that will count against the Jaguars salary cap. He also received a $25,000 signing bonus.

Jay Paris reports for the North County Times San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos is upbeat about the team's off-season moves, but he cautions the NFL Draft is still on the horizon. The team does not have the greatest track record in the draft. At least from last year's draft, S Rogers Beckett has moved into the starting lineup. Besides Rogers, the last five drafts have only produced two starters, TE Freddie Jones and DT Jamal Williams. It could be three if free agent OL Raleigh Roundtree re-signs with the team. Spanos feels the team's off-season moves and the potential addition of QB Michael Vick will wipe out the memories of last season's 1-15 record. Spanos thinks the team is in for a good year in 2001.

The Union Tribune reports, as an update to a previous story, when PK John Carney failed to accept a contract offer early this month, GM John Butler used part of the money to sign four other players, then pulled the proposal off the table this week, leaving Carney and his agent uncertain about what's next. Butler was asked if Carney had played his last game for the Chargers. That's not what I said," Butler said. Chargers free agent G Raleigh Roundtree was not happy with the initial contract proposal given to him by the team. Restricted free agent G Kendyl Jacox is reportedly talking with the Arizona Cardinals and might visit this weekend.

The Union Tribune reports the San Diego Chargers began cleaning up their salary cap by releasein starting ORG Kevin Gogan. Gogan had surgery on his knee and then came back to play the final game with the team. He indicated he may have rushed his return and because of that his knee still is not where it needs to be. Gogan said the release might mark the end of his career. OLG Raleigh Roundtree is an unrestricted free agent and isn't expected to be brought back. The team has yet to make an offer to OLT Ben Coleman, an unrestricted free agent. Backup OL Kendyl Jacox is a restricted free agent who has been discussing a multiyear deal with the team, but his recent change in agents has slowed negotiations. Word is he wants to test the open market. The Chargers have until tomorrow to tender offers to restricted and exclusive-rights free agents.
