Chargers | James Jones cut

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 17:33:03 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR James Jones was released Monday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will not have much fantasy value even if he is able to sign with another team, so owners should avoid him during their drafts.

Chargers | James Jones struggling to separate

Tue, 09 Aug 2016 07:23:48 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR James Jones has struggled in training camp to make clean releases off of the line of scrimmage.

Fantasy Tip: While he was respectably effective in Green Bay last season, Jones has lost a step and may not make the final roster. Avoid him in all fantasy formats.

Chargers | San Diego adds James Jones

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 12:59:02 -0700

Free-agent WR James Jones (Packers) is signing an undisclosed deal with the San Diego Chargers Tuesday, Aug. 2, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will ideally take the place of Stevie Johnson, for however long he is sideline with his torn meniscus. Jones will at least likely play behind Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin, plus Antonio Gates and Danny Woodhead will demand targets. He's a speculative late-round flier in standard leagues.

Chargers | James Jones visiting Chargers

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 05:11:07 -0700

Free-agent WR James Jones (Packers) is visiting the San Diego Chargers Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Since the Bolts just lost Stevie Johnson (knee), Jones could sign and contribute quickly. He's a dark-horse WR5 flyer after a 50-890-8 season.

49ers | James Jones likes San Francisco

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 14:47:30 -0700

Free-agent WR James Jones (Packers) said he would love to play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. Jones, who played for San Jose State in college, would like to remain in the Bay Area. While his preference is to stay in the Bay Area, Jones added that he's just ready to play and will play wherever.

Fantasy Tip: It's somewhat strange that someone who gained 890 receiving yards and scored eight times last season is still a free agent, but that's the case with Jones. He's obviously not draftable right now since he's not on a team, but he could be worth a deep flier if he is inked before the season starts.

Packers | James Jones won't be re-signed

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 15:25:15 -0700

Free-agent WR James Jones' (Packers) representative has been told the Green Bay Packers are not interested in re-signing the wide receiver because of the number of young wide receivers they have on their roster.

Fantasy Tip: Green Bay is ready to move on from Jones, especially with Jordy Nelson expected to be fully healthy for next season. Other teams could very well be interested in a healthy, veteran wide receiver in Jones, but as it stands, he has minimal fantasy value.

Packers | James Jones being ignored?

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 17:29:45 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR James Jones said teams are trying to "brush over" his name when talking about free agents at his position.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had a solid season for the Packers, but considering he was cut by the Raiders and Giants before returning to Green Bay, it is safe to say that playing with Aaron Rodgers had a lot to do with his success. Unless he re-signs or lands on a team with an elite QB, he isn't worth drafting in 2016.

Packers | James Jones wants to return to Pack

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 14:17:54 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR James Jones said he would love to re-sign with the Packers this offseason and finish his career there. He also said he plans on playing another three or four seasons.

Fantasy Tip: The 31-year-old Jones isn't expected to return to Green Bay after hauling in 50 catches for 890 yards and eight touchdowns last season as he stepped up with Jordy Nelson out for the year. Jones surprised a lot of folks, but he shouldn't be expected to put up those types of numbers elsewhere. Jones struggles to separate from defenders and would probably be a WR4 or 5 somewhere else.

Packers | Uncertain if James Jones returns

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 22:02:59 -0800

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR James Jones will be 32 this offseason, and typically general manager Ted Thompson avoids receivers of that advanced age. However, Jones played 1,205 out of 1,316 snaps (91.6 percent) while leading the team in receiving yardage (971) with 17.8 yards per reception. He is also a favorite of QB Aaron Rodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Jones looked good and was a tremendous last-minute addition for the team, or the receivers unit would have been a real disaster once Jordy Nelson went down. Jones will get paid somewhere next season, but his best years have been in the Green Bay organization and he has looked lost without Rodgers.

Packers | James Jones in for tough matchup?

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:51:24 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones could be matched up with Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16. Peterson allowed a league-best 45.6 passer rating in coverage. CB Justin Bethel was targeted a league-high 22 times in Weeks 16 and 17, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw at Bethel a season-high 14 times in their first matchup, resulting in seven catches for 75 yards and an interception.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) lacks the speed and physicality to win a matchup with Peterson, making him a very tough sell in this one on FantasyScore.
