Roy Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OG Toniu Fonoti reported to camp at more than 370 pounds, down from the 406 pounds he weighed during the offseason. Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer acknowledged that weight is an issue with Fonoti. However, part of the reason Fonoti is so big is because of his Samoan heritage. A diet laced with taro, a root vegetable that contains 500 percent more starch than an average potato, is one reason with genetics being another.

The St. Petersburg Times reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OL Toniu Fonoti failed to report to Tuesday's opening practice, June 20, because a family emergency required his attention back home in California, according to his agent. There was some initial confusion because the Bucs weren't immediately made aware of the matter, prompting head coach Jon Gruden after the morning practice to indicate that Fonoti was absent without permission. Fonoti is reportedly on his way to Tampa for practice Wednesday, June 21.

Katherine Smith, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Toniu Fonoti will compete with OT Dan Buenning for playing time. Buenning started at left guard during the 2005 season. Fonoti said he still needs to lose 10 to 15 pounds in order to get to 370 pounds, his playing weight at Nebraska. While Fonoti has experience at both guard positions, the team is working him out almost exclusively at left guard during team activities.

PewterReport.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OL Toniu Fonoti is still overweight and trying to get himself in shape. Fonoti, who is listed at 6-foot-4, 350 pounds on the team roster, indicated that he was much heavier than that. Fonoti wouldn't disclose his current weight to the media, but mentioned, "I can't really say anything other than that I am a big guy." Fonoti said that the Bucs had him playing exclusively at guard, and primarily on the left side, although he has taken some reps at right guard, too.

That $1-million deal was voided when he reportedly failed a physical because he weighed almost 400 pounds. Apparently, the Bucs didn't use that criteria and passed him on the physical he took for them Friday, March 17.

"He loves the Vikings," Feldman said. "He was thrilled when he was traded there. We're working toward getting him back."
