Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach Bill Callahan said Tuesday, May 21, that he didn't feel the need to sit down with OT Doug Free after he renegotiated his contract last week. "I'm really proud of the way Doug has handled everything that has transpired in the offseason," Callahan said. "He's been very positive, he's been forthcoming, he's been hard working and he's not let the business side affect the playing side, which I think has been tremendous, so in that regard I just have the utmost respect."

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones reiterated Wednesday, May 15, that the team wants to keep OT Doug Free, but the team would like to reduce his salary. He is due to make $7 million in 2013, and he struggled during the 2012 season. "I think we're on the same page with (Free and his agent), as far as timing," Jones said. "We're positive. Hopefully he's positive and we're trying to work through it all. I don't want to speculate. We're working on getting it worked out with Free."

Dallas Cowboys OG Kyle Kosier was moved from left to right guard in practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, due to a back injury to OG Montrae Holland (back). Kosier can now help OG Tyron Smith in pass protection. The move isn't expected to be permanent unless OG David Arkin can develop chemistry on the left side with OT Doug Free. Holland is unlikely to play in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 11.

Dallas Cowboys rookie OT Tyron Smith has worked at left offensive tackle during the first few days of training camp. While it was assumed he would give way to OT Doug Free when he is able to practice next week, that may not be how it plays out. Head coach Jason Garrett said the situation is still playing itself out, and the team feels Smith has the tools necessary to play left tackle. Smith is more comfortable at right tackle, which is what he played the last few years at USC. Garrett said both Smith and Free will be worked at both right and left tackle.
