Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach Bill Callahan said Tuesday, May 21, that he didn't feel the need to sit down with OT Doug Free after he renegotiated his contract last week. "I'm really proud of the way Doug has handled everything that has transpired in the offseason," Callahan said. "He's been very positive, he's been forthcoming, he's been hard working and he's not let the business side affect the playing side, which I think has been tremendous, so in that regard I just have the utmost respect."

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones reiterated Wednesday, May 15, that the team wants to keep OT Doug Free, but the team would like to reduce his salary. He is due to make $7 million in 2013, and he struggled during the 2012 season. "I think we're on the same page with (Free and his agent), as far as timing," Jones said. "We're positive. Hopefully he's positive and we're trying to work through it all. I don't want to speculate. We're working on getting it worked out with Free."

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones acknowledged the team is trying to renegotiate OT Doug Free's contract but said the team wants to keep Free. "I'd like to keep him," Jones said. "We think that Doug Free can be an important part of the team. He's been here. We know him. We think that with what we're doing in other parts of our offense, certainly in the offensive line, that this will bode well for him. So we think he can really be an asset to us."
