The Carolina Panthers have scored 30-plus points in eight of their last nine games (including the playoffs) and are averaging 36.1 points and 385.3 total yards in that span under offensive coordinator Mike Shula. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 266-121 in the first halves of games in the regular season. They outscored the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals by a combined margin of 55-7 in the playoffs, and they have seven touchdowns and two field goals in 13 first-half possessions.
Fantasy Tip: It starts and ends with Cam Newton, the likely choice for MVP this season. His ability to make plays with his legs outside the pocket and improvement throwing within the pocket this year puts added stress on any defense. It'll be a test for the Panthers against the No. 1 overall defense this year in the Denver Broncos, but you can't argue that Carolina's balance on offense will be tough to slow down.

The Carolina Panthers did not run many zone-read OTAs. The option package will be de-emphasized under new offensive coordinator Mike Shula.
Fantasy Tip: Great idea, since Cam Newton struggled in those plays early last season. The switch that was flipped in Newton's stats column was prompted by Carolina easing up on the zone-read. Expect the typical erratic statistical distribution among the backfield, but Newton should have another fine year with his increased time as a pocket passer. He'll cost plenty in drafts.

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said the team named Mike Shula as their offensive coordinator because of his familiarity of the team's offense and QB Cam Newton. "That was it," Rivera said. "Mike was with (the other candidates) step-for-step in terms of offensive thinking and planning and strategy. But the bottom line is familiarity with who we are as a football team."
