Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan scratched

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 15:34:02 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup Tuesday, July 26, because of flu-like symptoms. C Sandy Leon will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Leon is still having success at the plate this season and has recorded two home runs and 10 RBI this month. Leon should be a solid starting option in two-catcher leagues and some mixed leagues.

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:54:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Mike Pelfrey Tuesday, July 26. C Ryan Hanigan will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan is hitting only .173 in limited playing time this season and should be avoided by owners in all fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon continues to produce

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 21:23:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon went 2-for-4 with an RBI Monday, July 25, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Leon is starting fairly regularly, hitting .400 with an OPS well in excess of 1.000. He has emerged as a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats, especially when he is facing left-handed pitching.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon keeps on producing

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:47:26 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon was 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, July 20.

Fantasy Tip: Inexplicably, Leon keeps hitting. He has started the team's last four games behind the dish and is 5-for-14 with two home runs and six RBI in that stretch. There's no way he can keep this up, but unless you're pressed for roster space or have a stud backstop there's no reason not to use Leon until he cools down.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon drives in four

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 17:17:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in a 5-2 win over the New York Yankees Saturday, July 16.

Fantasy Tip: In 59 at-bats this year, Leon is hitting .458 with 13 RBI. When he does crack the lineup, he is worth a look as a DFS sleeper.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt out Saturday

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:21:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt (knee) are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Saturday, July 9. INF Travis Shaw will bat sixth and play first base and OF Bryce Brentz will bat seventh and start in left field. In addition, INF Aaron Hill is starting at the hot corner for the second consecutive game and C Sandy Leon is making his fifth start behind the plate in the last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw is batting .350 with four doubles, a home run and four RBI through 20 at-bats this month and is 5-for-10 in his career versus Moore with a double, home run and three RBI. Brentz is batting .375 with a home run and seven RBI through 32 at-bats and is 5-for-10 at the plate over the past week. Both players should be viewed as value plays in daily fantasy games.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon to see lion's share of starts

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:19:26 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon will start three of every five games with C Ryan Hanigan serving as the personal catcher of SP Steven Wright.

Fantasy Tip: Leon is scorching hot right now (20-for-40 through 15 games), but he posted a .187/.258/.225 slash line through his previous four seasons, so you'll want to keep expectations in check going forward. However, Boston has a potent lineup, so Leon is definitely worth grabbing in deep mixed leagues, if you're searching for a backstop option. Hanigan remains a desperation own in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon records four hits

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 15:21:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon went 4-for-5 against the Texas Rangers Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Leon has gone 20-for-40 with one home run and nine RBI since being recalled from the minor leagues. He should be a starting candidate in AL-only leagues and could be a sleeper candidate in daily fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Brock Holt returns to lineup Sunday

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 07:36:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt is back in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Sunday, July 3, batting seventh. In addition, C Sandy Leon will start behind the plate and bat eighth, with INF Marco Hernandez playing third base and batting ninth. C Christian Vazquez and 3B Travis Shaw have the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Holt went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in his first game back from the disabled list Friday, July 1, after being sidelined with a concussion, so it is safe to resume using him in all fantasy formats. Leon is 14-for-31 (.452) with four doubles, a home run and six RBI through 31 at-bats this season, while Hernandez is 5-for-15 at the plate over the past week, making them worthy of consideration for daily fantasy lineups as inexpensive sources of offense.
