Browns | Couch Steps Up And Delivers

Sun, 07 Oct 2001 19:57:06 -0700

Terry Pluto reports for the Beacon Journal as time wound down in today's game the Cleveland Browns trailed the San Diego Chargers 16-13. It figured the Browns would run the ball toward the middle of the field, pick up a few yards. Then kick a field goal to tie the score and then hope to win it in overtime. Instead, coach Butch Davis and offensive coordinator Bruce Arians decided it was time to fully and completely trust QB Tim Couch. San Diego had eight guys coming after Couch, but that meant WR Kevin Johnson was only covered by CB Alex Molden. Couch delivered a perfect strike to Johnson for the game winning TD and the rest as they say is history. "Couch played like a No. 1 pick," said Molden, who was on the wrong side of a couple of key passes between Couch and Johnson.
