New York Giants DE Mathias Kiwanuka could move back to the defensive line, according to general manager Jerry Reese. "Well I see him as still kind of a joker type player for us,'' Reese said. "But from my view I think he will probably play more on the defensive line more than he played at linebacker in the past; just from my view. But that is Coach Coughlin's call."

Giants | Justin Tuck trusts front office

Wed, 13 Feb 2013 09:19:01 -0800

New York Giants DE Justin Tuck said he was a little surprised that RB Ahmad Bradshaw, DT Chris Canty and LB Michael Boley were released last week but has faith that the front office are making the right decisions. "Those guys have done a great job over the years of building a team that can be successful, and I don't see why we can't trust in the fact that they know what they're doing up there," Tuck said. "Those decisions aren't easy decisions. I'm sure [general manager Jerry Reese] and everyone up there had some tough times and some tough conversations about them, but they felt as though it needed to happen, and they went forward with it."

Giants | Should have rested Hakeem Nicks

Sat, 05 Jan 2013 08:17:22 -0800

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said the injury to WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) really hurt the offense, particularly QB Eli Manning, this season, and the team may have been better off giving Nicks more rest. "I think it starts (with) ... Hakeem Nicks has been one of the linchpins in our offense. He was banged up and I really think it took its toll on our offense and what we are trying to do," Reese said. "He was trying to fight through it. But in hindsight, I think if we had to think about it again, maybe we would have taken him out a little quicker than we did. But that is neither here or there at this point. But I do think it affected the quarterback's play some."

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese felt the team was not going to lose TE Jake Ballard on waivers to the New England Patriots. "Yes, we thought that he would clear," Reese said. "It's rare but it's not the first time something like that has happened. It's disappointing for us that we didn't get him back. He did a tremendous job for us and we hope he gets well soon and that he can finish his career, whether it's with New England or whatever team he ends up with. It was disappointing, but that does happen, every blue moon."

Giants | Osi Umenyiora critical of team

Mon, 30 Apr 2012 05:42:14 -0700

New York Giants DL Osi Umenyiora did not care for comments made by general manager Jerry Reese, who said Umenyiora has turned down multiple contract extension offers. Umenyiora said Reese's comments overlook the fact that the team's contract offers have been for far less money than he thinks he deserves, and far less than the $10.95 million guaranteed that DL Mathias Kiwanuka just got from the Giants. "Last year I was offered incentives. This year they offered me in guaranteed money, HALF of what they just gave Kiwi guaranteed. HALF," Umenyiora wrote in an email. "I'm not making that up. Then Jerry tells the world they offered me an extension and I turned it down. And I look like a greedy pig for turning it down. Hilarious."

Giants | Jerry Reese promises playoffs

Fri, 12 Aug 2011 16:24:13 -0700

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese has promised fans that the team will make it to the playoffs this season. "We won 10 games last year; it wasn't like we were 6-10," Reese said. "We expect to build off that. If we made a couple of plays here and there last year, we would have been in the playoffs. And who knows what would have happened? But it didn't happen, so we will make the plays this time and we'll get in the playoffs and make a run."

Giants | Osi Umenyiora says promises broken

Thu, 16 Jun 2011 08:32:53 -0700

New York Giants DL Osi Umenyiora will file an affadavit in federal court next month as part of the players' antitrust suite against the NFL spelling out why he has wanted out of New York. Umenyiora states general manager Jerry Reese did not follow through on promises to renegotiate his contract. "In early April 2008, approximately two weeks before the start of the New York Giants offseason conditioning program, I, Osi Umenyiora, had a meeting with the general manager of the New York Giants, Mr. Jerry Reese," Umenyiora testified this past April. "After about an hour of discussing my current contract, as well as the contracts of other defensive ends currently playing in the National Football League, Mr. Reese told me that two years from the start of the 2008 league year, if I was currently playing at a high level, we'd either renegotiate my current contract so that it would be equal to that of the top five defensive ends playing or I would be traded to a team that would do that."

Giants | Brandon Jacobs expected to return

Tue, 07 Jun 2011 06:21:21 -0700

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said RB Brandon Jacobs is expected to remain with the team next season. Jacobs had expressed concern that the team would be unable re-sign impending free-agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw and keep him as well. Jacobs is under contract for two more seasons and will make $4.65 million this season. "I guess you have to consider the source when Brandon starts talking," Reese said. "You can't read a lot into what Brandon is saying sometimes. We do expect Brandon to be part of the football team this fall. He is under contract. Brandon does talk a lot and like I said, sometimes you got to tune some of that stuff out that he is talking about."

Giants | Interested in Plaxico Burress

Tue, 25 Jan 2011 08:33:17 -0800

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said he will explore the possibility of signing free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) once Burress comes out of jail later this summer, according to Ohm Youngmisuk, of ESPNNewYork.com. Reese said he will be in contact with Burress after his sentence ends. "Well, you know my standard answer to that, we investigate everything and we'll definitely investigate that," Reese said. "But you know Plax, when he gets home I think the first thing he'll want to do is just spend time with his family, and we'll be in contact at the appropriate time. So we'll just let that unfold ... Absolutely, we will not rule that out."

NFL | Plaxico Burress expected to get out of prison soon

Wed, 04 Aug 2010 09:28:01 -0700

Unrestricted free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) is expected to be released from prison in the next two to three weeks as part of a work-release program, a source told George Willis, of the New York Post. New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese said the team would explore the possibility of re-signing Burress when he gets out of prison.

Fantasy Tip: In very deep leagues, it may not hurt to take a final-round flier on Burress. He'll likely be suspended by the NFL for a minimum of a few games, and probably no more than eight games, but some team will take a chance on him. If you feel you can afford to stash him for the second half of the year, since it will take him time to get back into game shape, Burress is a worthwhile gamble.

Giants | Defend Bomar selection

Mon, 27 Apr 2009 06:39:53 -0700

Mike Garafolo, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese defended the pick of QB Rhett Bomar in the NFL Draft by saying Bomar or QB Andre' Woodson could serve as an insurance policy for a potential departure of QB David Carr down the road. "We drafted Woodson last year. We still like Woodson," Reese said before he could even be asked about what Bomar's arrival means for Woodson. "I know people will start to write him off right away, but that's not true. Who knows how long David Carr will be here?" Head coach Tom Coughlin added Bomar represented good value for the team. "The scouts had very good grades on Bomar," Coughlin said. "There were a lot of people in the room who, when Bomar was picked, stood up and talked about the value of that individual at that time."

"People are so worried about left tackle . . . I think that's so overrated. People act like Petitgout was the second coming. He never made the Pro Bowl, and I don't think he ever was a first alternate. Now all of a sudden he's the savior? That's ridiculous. I don't think we're that bad off without Luke Petitgout. He was not a star left tackle. He was a solid left tackle on some occasions and other times he wasn't. Luke has been a marginal player for a long time," Reese said.
