Confirming previous reports, the Houston Astros have recalled SP Jordan Lyles from Triple-A Oklahoma City. In a corresponding move, INF Brian Bixler was optioned to Oklahoma City.

The Houston Astros placed SS Marwin Gonzalez on the paternity list and placed SP Kyle Weiland (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list. P Fernando Abad and SS Brian Bixler were recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Houston Astros activated SS Jed Lowrie (thumb) from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 12, and optioned SS Brian Bixler to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Lowrie will be in the lineup Friday, April 13. He went 3-for-6 with three RBIs on a rehab assignment.

The Houston Astros placed SS Jed Lowrie (thumb) on the 15-day disabled list before their opening day game Friday, April 6, to give his thumb time to heal. Lowrie will be eligible to return Friday, April 13, against the Miami Marlins. SS Brian Bixler was recalled from the minors, but SS Marwin Gonzalez will be the team's primary shortstop in Lowrie's absence.

The Houston Astros are still waiting to decide whether to put SS Jed Lowrie (thumb) on the disabled list to start the season. Lowrie will test his thumb in the cages before the game Thursday, April 5. "He's feeling good today," manager Bradley Mills said. "He's 'feeling better' today were his exact words. Right now, he's in the cage taking some swings to see how it feels." If Lowrie isn't ready, SS Brian Bixler will be added to the roster.

The Houston Astros reassigned SS Angel Sanchez, 3B Scott Moore and SS Brian Bixler to minor league camp. They optioned RP Enerio Del Rosario to Triple-A Round Rock and released 2B Joe Thurston.

Houston Astros SS Brian Bixler swatted a two-run home run in the Grapefruit League game Tuesday, March 27. Bixler is trying to make the team as a utility man, and he is seeing a lot of time in the outfield lately, too. The homer was his third of the spring.

Houston Astros SS Brian Bixler saw time in the outfield Friday, March 23. The trade of OF Jason Bourgeois to the Kansas City Royals this week opened up a spot in the outfield, and brought to the attention the team's lack of right-handed-hitting outfielders. "All the reports we have of him playing the outfield are very good," manager Bradley Mills said. "He'll keep playing those outfield positions and also play shortstop."

Houston Astros OF Brian Bogusevic will get a long look in center field this spring, and he'll compete with OFs Jordan Schafer and Jason Bourgeois for the starting job there. "His ability gives him the opportunity to be able to play center or right, but we want this guy to step up and be an everyday starter for us and there's no reason he won't be able to," manager Bradley Mills said of Bogusevic. "We all saw what he can do at times last year." OF Jack Cust, 1B Jonathan Singleton and INFs Matt Downs and Brian Bixler will also see time in the outfield.
