Pirates | Francisco Cervelli with a breather

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 11:52:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 24. C Chris Stewart draws the start and is hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has held his own against right-handers in a small sample size as the backup catcher this year, going 15-for-53 (.283) with no homers and six RBI. He'll remain a weak FantasyScore catching option, but he can save you plenty of cap space.

Pirates | Three RBI for Francisco Cervelli

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:14:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli hit a three-run home run during the Pirates' 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, June 23. It was his only hit of the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is having a solid season for the Bucs. He boasts a .306/.383/.409 slash line with 20 runs, three home runs and 22 RBI, and he should be viewed as a solid No. 2 catcher in two-catcher leaues and low-end starter in NL-only formats. At FantasyScore, Cervelli is worth utilizing as a value play when the Pirates face a favorable opposing pitcher.

Pirates | Pedro Alvarez dropped in lineup

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 10:29:12 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez has been dropped to the No. 6 spot in the batting order against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Saturday, June 20. C Francisco Cervelli has been moved up to the No. 5 spot.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Alvarez's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) .214 mark this month has something to do with this change. Neither Alvarez nor Cervelli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) have had much lifetime success against Scherzer, with the two combining to go 1-for-14 (.071) against the right-hander.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli out Thursday

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 15:39:36 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is out of the starting lineup Thursday, June 18, against the Chicago White Sox. C Chris Stewart will start behind the plate and hit ninth in the order against RHP Jeff Samardzija.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting a surprising .290 through 66 plate appearances this season, but he hasn't offered much else in terms of fantasy production. Stewart is an option for those electing to punt the catcher position, but he's unlikely to offer much more than a single or two, in a best case scenario.

Pirates | Chris Stewart catching Saturday

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 13:08:25 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Chris Stewart will spot start for C Francisco Cervelli at catcher and bat eighth against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has played sparingly this year, tallying just six runs batted in in 59 at-bats. He is at minimum price on FantasyScore, but it would only make sense to invest in Stewart if you want to spend more at other positions.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli on the bench

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 08:57:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 7. C Chris Stewart will take his place in the lineup and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .296 in limited playing time this season and could be a cheap option on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli not in lineup

Wed, 27 May 2015 09:31:10 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 27. C Chris Stewart is catching and hitting eighth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP Brad Hand.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has almost zero offensive upside, and he should be ignored at FantasyScore.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli sitting out

Fri, 22 May 2015 12:38:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Friday, May 22. C Chris Stewart is starting behind the plate and batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Cervelli ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) in all formats Friday. While his counting stats are lacking, Cervelli is sporting a .286 batting average and .348 on-base percentage and holds low-end value in cavernous mixed, NL-only and two-catcher leagues. Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) sports a .238/.250/.286 slash line this season, and FantasyScore players should view him as a desperation source of cap relief.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli back in lineup

Wed, 20 May 2015 12:05:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli (head) is back in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 20, after being shaken up when a foul tip hit his mask Tuesday, May 19. He's hitting seventh in the batting order against Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been solid this year for the Bucs while most of the catching crop has been underwhelming in 2015. However, he has no home runs and just nine RBI, making his FantasyScore ceiling rather low.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli leaves game

Tue, 19 May 2015 18:48:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli (head) left the game early Tuesday, May 19, after he took a foul tip off his mask. Cervelli was removed for precautionary reasons.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will be tested for a possible concussion, so owners should monitor the situation. Chris Stewart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) would be the regular starting catcher if Cervelli is sidelined but should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.
