New York Yankees C Chris Stewart had a double, walk and two runs scored Monday, April 23, against the Texas Rangers. As long as Stewart continues to hit, he'll keep the struggling C Francisco Cervelli down at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli would be called up to start if C Russell Martin suffers an injury. The Yanks optioned Cervelli to the minors when they acquired C Chris Stewart because Cervelli has minor league options left and Stewart does not. "I think (Cervelli) is one of the 60 best catchers in the game, no doubt," general manager Brian Cashman said. "Right now we have maybe three of the best 60 catchers in the game. That's good for us, not for him."

The New York Yankees acquired C Chris Stewart from the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 4, in exchange for RP George Kontos. C Francisco Cervelli was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

The New York Yankees signed 19 players to one-year contracts for the 2012 season Wednesday, March 7. The players signed were Ps Cory Wade, Michael Pineda, David Phelps, Ivan Nova, D.J. Mitchell, Brad Meyers, George Kontos, Cesar Cabral and Dellin Betances, Cs Austin Romine and Francisco Cervelli, INFs Ramiro Pena, Eduardo Nunez, Brandon Laird, Corban Joseph and David Adams and OFs Melky Mesa, Justin Maxwell and Zoilo Almonte. Financial terms weren't given.

New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) was clipped on the back of the hand on the backswing from Pittsburgh Pirates OF Brandon Boggs Tuesday, March 6. He was able to remain in the game.

New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (concussion) will wear a new helmet that will give him more protection. He was shut down with concussion-related symptoms at the end of last season, and Cervelli has had three concussions since 2009. "I feel great," he said. "I don't have any symptoms. The first two concussions were two days and that's it. This one was a longer one, but there is no problem with my brain."
