Pirates | Francisco Cervelli looking for big money

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 15:44:03 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is believed to be looking for a three-year deal worth $39 million if he signs an extension with the Pirates, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli was able to play in 130 games in 130 games last season and finished the season with a .295 average and 43 RBIs. He will receive a majority of the starts this season if he is healthy and should be a solid option in two-catcher leagues.

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli avoided arbitration with a one-year, $3.5 million deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli had a bit of a breakout in his first year starting with a .295-7-43 line. He'll be in that median starting catcher mix in fantasy.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli hits grand slam

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 18:50:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli hit a grand slam against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the first game of a doubleheader.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) slam was his seventh home run of the year but his first since Aug. 9. His high batting average and modest price could make him attractive to FantasyScore owners but don't count on seeing much power out of him.

Pirates | Rest day for Francisco Cervelli

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 10:43:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has decent numbers for a backup catcher (.286-0-15), but he remains a deep sleeper with a little upside today while hitting at Coors Field.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli close to returning

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 17:29:02 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli (foot) said he could have continued playing after aggravating a sore right foot against the Chicago Cubs Thursday, Sept. 17, but manager Clint Hurdle decided to remove him as a precautionary measure. He was able to walk around the clubhouse after the game without needing ice and said he was fine.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) injury appears to be minor and he should return to the starting lineup within the next few days. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him in his first game back so that he can prove that he is completely healthy.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli out Friday

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 16:27:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli (foot) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 18. C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli reinjured his foot during a collision at home plate Thursday, but he seems to be fine moving forward. Starting Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) Friday night would be an idiotic idea against Greinke.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli resting in first game

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 09:18:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, Sept. 15. C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is hitting .292 (42-for-144) but he has no home runs and only 15 RBI in backup duty for the Bucs this year. He's a low-end catcher mainly used for salary cap relief in daily formats.

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli will bat sixth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Saturday, Sept. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is 6-for-13 over the past week and is batting .308 during the month of September, making him a solid catching option in FantasyScore.

Pirates | No Francisco Cervelli vs. Milwaukee

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 12:37:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 11. C Chris Stewart is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has held his own in limited playing time this season, but he offers little upside and owns a .331 slugging percentage. He is nothing more than a source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Friday. Cervelli ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been a solid hitter for the Pirates all season and checks out as a low-end catcher in NL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher fantasy formats.

Pirates | Chris Stewart catching Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 10:37:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Chris Stewart will bat eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia Saturday, Sept. 5. C Francisco Cervelli is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is batting .280 with no homers and 12 RBIs in 132 at-bats this season. He should not be a consideration for FantasyScore lineups unless you are in desperate need of salary cap relief.
