Sun, 01 May 2016 08:54:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli and 3B David Freese are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Tim Adleman Sunday, May 1. INF Sean Rodriguez will bat sixth and play the hot corner, while C Chris Stewart will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart and Rodriguez should both be viewed as solid value plays in daily fantasy leagues this afternoon. Stewart is 5-for-18 with a double, home run and two RBI, while Rodriguez is batting .333 with two doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI in just 30 at-bats.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is out of the lineup Thursday, April 28, with OF Matt Joyce hitting cleanup. C Francisco Cervelli also has the day off, which bumps 2B Josh Harrison up to fifth, and C Chris Stewart is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce has a .333-2-7 line and is a solid plug-and-play in Coors Field against Tyler Chatwood. J-Hay is on fire and is a daily consideration. Stewart is a basement flyer because of the park.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco, John Jaso sitting

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:16:14 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco and 1B John Jaso are not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres left-handed SP Drew Pomeranz Wednesday, April 20. 1B Sean Rodriguez is starting in right field and hitting seventh, while C Chris Stewart is catching and hitting eighth. C Francisco Cervelli moves to first base and SS Jordy Mercer moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez and Stewart are low-end daily options against the lefty Pomeranz, who has looked sharp in his first two outings of the season for the Friars. Mercer gains the most fantasy value for the evening. He hit .284 (23-for-81) against lefties last year but had zero homers against them. Despite the move up the order, Mercer's fantasy value is capped without much power.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli bangs out homer

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 19:34:57 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Grapefruit League spring play Tuesday, March 1.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli would be an awesome fantasy option if games counted in the spring, as the Florida air agrees with him and he powers up in March. However, he isn't a great source of power when the games count for real, but still a Top 15 option at his position for fantasy purposes.

Pirates | Francisco Cervelli hits grand slam

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 18:50:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli hit a grand slam against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the first game of a doubleheader.

Fantasy Tip: Cervelli's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) slam was his seventh home run of the year but his first since Aug. 9. His high batting average and modest price could make him attractive to FantasyScore owners but don't count on seeing much power out of him.

Pirates | Rest day for Francisco Cervelli

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 10:43:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has decent numbers for a backup catcher (.286-0-15), but he remains a deep sleeper with a little upside today while hitting at Coors Field.
