Thu, 23 May 2013 14:36:55 -0700 New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman provided some news on battered players. SP Ivan Nova (triceps, oblique) will probably return to the team after their three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) and RP Joba Chamberlain (oblique) are on track to return a few days later. SS Eduardo Nunez (ribcage) should return by the end of the month.
Sun, 19 May 2013 12:58:37 -0700 New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) said he will visit a doctor next week. During that visit, he hopes to get the pins removed from his fractured right hand.
Wed, 08 May 2013 01:20:44 -0700 New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) had the stitches taken out of his fractured right hand Tuesday, May 7. He said he'll need to wear a cast for the next three weeks, and only then, depending on how he feels, can he start throwing, hitting and so on. "There's not much I can do right now, but I feel very good," Cervelli said. "Every day is better."
Wed, 01 May 2013 20:25:33 -0700 The New York Yankees acquired INF Chris Nelson from the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, May 1. The Yankees will either send cash or a player to be named to the Rockies. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees moved C Francisco Cervelli (hand) from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Nelson should see a good chunk of the starts at third base, especially with Kevin Youkilis (back) on the 15-day disabled list and Alex Rodriguez (hip) out until after the All-Star break. There is plenty of opportunity for Nelson to shine, so fantasy owners in AL-only leagues, and even deeper mixed formats, will want to take advantage.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 20:42:43 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) will have surgery Saturday, April 27, to repair his broken right hand. He is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks after the procedure. Fantasy Tip: With Cervelli on the shelf, Chris Stewart is expected to see a majority of the starts, with prospect Austin Romine also in the mix for playing time. Both should only be considered a low-end No. 2 option in AL-only leagues which require two starting catchers.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 18:52:43 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) has been diagnosed with a broken hand after being hit by a pitch Friday, April 26, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Fantasy Tip: Cervelli is likely to miss at least six weeks of action. The Yankees are likely to bring up prospect Austin Romine to help out Chris Stewart with the duties behind the plate. Romine is worth scooping up in AL-only leagues, as well as in long-term keeper formats.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 16:44:47 -0700 New York Yankees C Austin Romine was pulled from his game at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre Friday, April 26. Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) was struck on the hand by a pitch, and this could mean he may miss time.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 16:14:01 -0700 New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (hand) left the game Friday, April 26, after being hit on the hand by a pitch.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 19:26:45 -0700 New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli has been playing regularly behind the plate, although manager Joe Girardi has stopped short of calling Cervelli the everyday catcher. "His at-bats have been good," Girardi said. "He's been patient, he's hit the ball with some authority and I saw that in spring training. We had a lot of opportunities to watch him play. He's gotten his pitch, and he hasn't missed it."
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 20:45:04 -0700 New York Yankees 3B Jayson Nix is expected to start at shortstop Saturday, April 6, against the Detroit Tigers with SS Eduardo Nunez (biceps) not expected to play. Oddly enough, if any other infielders get hurt Saturday, the backup infielder would be C Francisco Cervelli.
