The Kansas City Chiefs hired Chicago Bears special teams coach Dave Toub as their new special teams coach Tuesday, Jan. 15. The team also named Eugene Chung as their assistant offensive line coach and retained linebackers coach Gary Gibbs and defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas will return to the team next season. It was believed the Oakland Raiders may have had interest in Thomas as their defensive coordinator but it is not known if they asked permission to interview Thomas.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday, June 30, that Hall of Fame CB Emmitt Thomas will have his jersey No. 18 retired by the team and will receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring during a ceremony at Arrowhead Stadium Oct. 19 versus the Tennessee Titans. Thomas will be the ninth player in franchise history to have his jersey retired.

Pete Aldrich, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys have been denied permission to talk to Atlanta Falcons assistant coach Emmitt Thomas. The Cowboys were interested in Thomas to fill the team's vacancy at secondary coach.

Former NFL WR Cris Carter and former Washington Redskins CB Darrell Green have been named finalists to be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Other finalists include DE Fred Dean, DE Richard Dent, RB Marshall Goldberg, LB Randy Gradishar, OG Russ Grimm, P Ray Guy, OG Bob Kuechenberg, OG Randall McDaniel, WR Art Monk, WR Andre Reed, commissioner Paul Tagliabue, LB Derrick Thomas, CB Emmitt Thomas, LB Andre Tippett and OT Gary Zimmerman. The Board of Selectors will meet Saturday, Feb. 2, to elect the Hall of Fame Class of 2008.
