Bears | Zach Miller injury update

Mon, 30 Oct 2017 11:07:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (knee) is awaiting the results of an MRI following emergency vascular surgery to evaluate for blood flow and anatomy in his injured left leg, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Fantasy Tip: Miller faces a long road of recovery and he's not out of the woods yet in regards to keeping his leg due to the obvious serious nature of his injury, but an MRI is a very positive sign in that doctors would likely not have ordered the exam to check on the ligaments if they thought the leg was still in danger. While his season is over and his football playing career certainly in question, Miller appears to be trending in the right direction in terms of resuming a "normal" life if his recovery remains on track.

Bears | Zach Miller suffers knee dislocation

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 19:45:21 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (knee) was taken to the hospital after the Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints after suffering a dislocated left knee.

Fantasy Tip: To make matters worse for fantasy owners, he appeared to have a touchdown on the play, but replay review found he did not maintain possession and the score was taking away. That was literally insult to injury. It appears Miller is likely done for the remainder of the season, as the Chicago pass attack loses yet another weapon.

Bears | Zach Miller carted off

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 12:17:40 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (leg) was carted off the field after suffering a serious leg injury during the team's Week 8 game.

Fantasy Tip: Miller could miss the rest of the season depending on the severity of the injury. Owners should know more about his condition in the next few days but may want to look to add a tight end on the waiver wire. Dion Sims and Adam Shaheen will receive more playing time but neither is a great fantasy option.

Bears | Zach Miller finishes with 29 yards

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 14:48:54 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller hauled in two catches for 29 yards on three targets in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Miller failed to score for the first time in three games, but he was about the only pass catcher who did anything of note in Chicago on a day they used a heavy run attack with just seven pass attempts. Despite the poor results, Miller is still a low-end TE1 target heading into Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints.

Bears | Zach Miller reaches end zone

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 14:48:28 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller caught two passes for 25 yards and one touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has caught a touchdown in each of the last two games but has not posted 50 yards in any games this season. He can be a No. 2 tight end in most leagues but is not a great starting option.

Bears | Zach Miller scores first touchdown on MNF

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 21:12:36 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller hauled in three of his seven targets for 39 yards and his first touchdown of the season in the team's Week 5 game Monday, Oct. 9, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: The good news from this, aside from Miller finding the end zone for the first time, is that he was the most-targeted option on the Bears in quarterback Mitchell Trubisky's debut. That bodes well for his prospects moving forward if the rookie is constantly looking his way, and there's a good chance that trend will continue given Chicago's woeful lack of depth at receiver.

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 13:13:34 -0700

Chicago Bears LB Nick Kwiatkoski (pectoral) did not participate in practice and has been ruled out for Week 3. OG Josh Sitton (ribs) did not practice and is listed as doubtful. OT Tom Compton (hip) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. DE Akiem Hicks (shoulder), RB Jordan Howard (shoulder), TE Zach Miller (non-injury) and WR Kendall Wright (shoulder) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Bears | Zach Miller not on injury report

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 12:59:08 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (non-injury) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has been targeted 15 times in the first two games and should continue to be a solid option in the passing game for the Bears. Miller should be owned in most fantasy leagues but can be left on the bench this week.

Bears | Zach Miller not at practice

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 14:35:49 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (non-injury related) missed practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: This was probably simply a rest day for the Bears' tight end. He'll be on the field and is worth a look as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2 after seeing 15 targets through the season's first couple outings.

Bears | Zach Miller records four receptions

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 15:31:31 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller hauled in four receptions for 39 yards on six targets in Week 1 against Atlanta.

Fantasy Tip: Miller led the team's tight ends and wide receivers in catches and targets, although he had exactly half in each category that rookie RB Tarik Cohen was able to post. Miller is still only worth a look as a bye-week streaming option in most fantasy leagues and not as a regular contributor in most formats.

Bears | Zach Miller's spot in question?

Fri, 21 Jul 2017 15:31:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) could be released during training camp if he is not able to return from his foot injury, in the opinion of ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation during camp to see if he will be able to return to the field. He posted decent numbers in 2016 but would only be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues if he starts for the Bears this season.

Bears | Zach Miller not a lock

Mon, 26 Jun 2017 09:07:54 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) isn't a lock to make the team, in the opinion of beat writer Brad Biggs. Miller will be pushed for a job by TE Daniel Brown, TE Ben Braunecker and TE MyCole Pruitt.

Fantasy Tip: Miller had career highs with 47 catches and 486 yards with four scores last season, but he's 32, and has had injury concerns the last two years. He's a solid TE2 in fantasy if he makes the club and makes it back from his broken right foot.

Bears | Zach Miller could miss start of camp

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 23:33:28 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) may not be ready when the team starts its training camp July 26, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: This contradicts what Miller said in late May, but it shouldn't be all that surprising given the 32-year-old's lengthy list of injury woes. He's a decent TE2 when healthy, but history says he won't stay that way.

Bears | Zach Miller close to 100 percent

Sat, 20 May 2017 19:57:22 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) said Satrurday, May 20, that he is "close to 100 percent" but plans to take it easy during OTAs.

Fantasy Tip: Chicago doesn't have a lot of proven weapons in the passing game, so Miller should see a decent amount of targets if he can stay healthy. He can be a serviceable TE2.

Bears | Zach Miller eyeing OTAs

Wed, 08 Feb 2017 08:29:03 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) said he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from Lisfranc surgery, and he said he'll be ready for organized team activities in April.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has having a breakout season before his campaign was cut short. He had a 47-486-4 line in 10 games. He's not a young guy, as he turns 33 in October, and he's best served as a TE2 in fantasy.

Bears | Zach Miller to have surgery

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 06:29:00 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) will have surgery on his broken right foot soon. Miller is out for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Logan Paulsen is the next man up on the depth chart. However, he hasn't been much of a receiving threat in his career and warrants little fantasy merit.

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 06:18:44 -0800

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) will miss the rest of the season due to a broken right foot.

Fantasy Tip: Logan Paulsen is the next man up on the depth chart. However, he hasn't been much of a receiving threat in his career and warrants little fantasy merit.

Bears | Zach Miller out with foot injury

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 12:26:49 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (foot) will miss the rest of the game Sunday, Nov. 20, against the New York Giants due to a foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: Miller had three catches for 61 yards prior to the injury. Suffice to say this is bad for the Bears, who were already without Alshon Jeffery in this contest. Look for Logan Paulsen to get touches at TE, but he would be a significant fantasy downgrade. You're best to scour the waiver wire.

Bears | Zach Miller could burn Tampa Bay

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 18:11:43 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10, and defensive coordinator Mike Smith said Tampa Bay's linebackers have struggled in coverage this season.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ranks fourth in catches at his position, and the Buccaneers have allowed several big games to tight ends this season. Consider Miller a solid TE1 in Week 10.

Bears | Zach Miller targeted 10 times

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 21:32:23 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller posted seven receptions for a game-high 88 yards in the Week 8 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was targeted 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Miller developed quite the rapport with backup Brian Hoyer, and perhaps Jay Cutler was watching during his absence due to injury. He found Miller early and often, and he has re-emerged as a low-end TE1 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Bears | Zach Miller listed as questionable

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 13:55:58 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 19, and is questionable to play in Week 7 versus the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: If Miller is active then he's a fringe TE1 against a Packers defense that has been subpar against tight ends so far this year. Plus, Miller has been targeted 18 times over his last two games and has scored three times in his last four games. That's the Brian Hoyer effect.

Bears | Zach Miller limited

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 12:31:36 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) was limited in practice Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on Miller's status leading up to Thursday night's contest with the Green Bay Packers. If he does play then he is a borderline TE1. The Packers have been weak versus tight end this year and Miller has played well with Brian Hoyer.

Bears | Zach Miller limited Monday

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 15:30:33 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) was limited in practice Monday, Oct. 17. The Bears did not practice; Miller's status is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has been targeted 18 times the last two weeks, but he has only delivered 13 catches for 109 yards in those two games. Brian Hoyer clearly trusts him, though, and Miller is a fringe TE1 in a more favorable matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

Bears | Zach Miller catches six passes

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 15:19:11 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller caught six passes for 36 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has shown good chemistry with Brian Hoyer and should continue to receive targets in the passing game. Owners should consider Miller as a low-end No. 1 tight end against most opponents.

Bears | Zach Miller ready to play

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 09:50:51 -0700

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 16:55:32 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Miller should be able to play this week and has had a solid role in the passing game over the last few weeks. Miller should be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller back at practice

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 18:26:29 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has emerged as a major weapon for Chicago since Brian Hoyer has taken over the quarterback spot, and he is a TE1 candidate in Week 6.

Bears | Zach Miller not able to practice

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 16:49:59 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was able to play in Week 5 with the injury and probably will be able to play in Week 6. He has recorded at least 73 yards in two of his last three games and has been playing better with Brian Hoyer as the quarterback. Miller could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller snares seven catches

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 20:19:48 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) hauled in seven receptions for 73 yards in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has jelled nicely with Brian Hoyer, posting 18 catches for 182 yards and three scores over the past three weeks. Fantasy owners of Miller want to see Hoyer keep the starting job in Chicago, as Jay Cutler just wasn't using Miller as frequently as Hoyer, who has emerged as a useful fantasy option.

Bears | Zach Miller ready to play

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 09:19:29 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) is officially active for the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: Miller could see more targets with Kevin White ruled out and Eddie Royal dealing with a calf injury. He has scored three touchdowns in the last two games and can be a low-end No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller will play Sunday

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 07:14:01 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) will play in Week 5's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Miller had been listed as questionable on the injury report and was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7. He has three touchdowns in his last two contests and is worth considering as a low-end TE1.

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 16:13:19 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Miller appears to be on track to play in Week 5, but owners will have to make sure he is active for the game. He has scored three touchdowns over the last two games and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in most leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller sits out

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 16:08:57 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Miller's status later in the week. He has scored three touchdowns in his last two games and would have a favorable matchup if he is active this week. He should be a decent starting option if he plays.

Bears | Zach Miller finds end zone again

Sun, 02 Oct 2016 20:48:56 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller scored again in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions, his third score in the past two games. "Zach did a good job of…losing himself and breaking out," QB Brian Hoyer said Sunday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is worth grabbing in all deeper fantasy leagues, especially if you need a bye-week replacement. He appears to have quite the rapport with Hoyer.

Bears | Zach Miller with big game

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 06:51:48 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller had eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Brian Hoyer tends to lean on his tight ends, and Miller has a ton of upside while Jay Cutler (thumb) is out. Miller is a midrange TE1 option with upside against the Detroit Lions next week.

Bears | Zach Miller back at practice

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:23:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) passed his concussion tests and participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29. Head coach John Fox said he is not sure if Miller will play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has been sidelined for several weeks because of the concussion but appears to be on track to play in Week 1. He should have a solid role in the passing game this season but probably should be a No. 2 tight end in most leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller nearing full return

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 20:34:09 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) was once again in a red jersey, which signifies no contact, during practice on Tuesday, Aug. 23, but is thought to be close to returning from the NFL's concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's preseason concussion trouble doesn't really change his outlook at all, as he was always a risky TE2 due to a long list of medical issues over the years.

Bears | Zach Miller able to practice

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 20:56:53 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) returned to the practice field Saturday, Aug. 20, although he wore a red jersey to signify he is off-limits in terms of contact.

Fantasy Tip: Miller re-emerged as a fantasy option last season, but his injury history is a big concern. Treat Miller more as a TE2 due to his propensity for injury.

Bears | Zach Miller meets with team doctors

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 23:58:15 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion), who returned to practice on Saturday, Aug. 13, was absent on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and while head coach John Fox indicated Miller hadn't suffered a setback he did meet with team doctors.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries are always a concern, but given Miller's lengthy history this is exactly the kind of thing fantasy owners that invested a pick on last year's feel-good story didn't want to see. He's a risky TE2 with a moderately high ceiling and a very low floor.

Bears | Zach Miller expected to practice again

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 08:07:08 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) is expected to practice again Sunday, Aug. 14, after he was limited during practice Saturday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Miller likely will be eased back into practice after sitting out about two weeks because of his concussion. He should receive some preseason snaps but likely will be limited during those games. He should be a solid option in the passing game this season and probably will be a No. 2 tight end in most leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller back at practice

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 16:51:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) returned to practice Saturday, Aug. 13, for the first time since July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Long one of the league's most injury-prone players, Miller had a nice second-half run with the Bears after Martellus Bennett was lost for the season. With Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White healthy (for now), the 31-year-old is going to have a tough time matching his production down the stretch last year. He's a TE2 in 12-team leagues.

Bears | Four Chicago pass catchers sitting out

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 11:52:53 -0700

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), Kevin White (rest), Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 5. Head coach John Fox said it was a scheduled day off for White, and Fox noted both Royal and Miller are improving.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to view Jeffery as a fringe No. 1 receiver worth grabbing any time into Round 2 of drafts, whereas White is an upside candidate to target into the middle rounds as your No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver. Miller is a late-round option after a decent finish to 2015 (31 receptions, 404 yards and five touchdowns over the final eight games). At this point, Royal is a low-end option in deep leagues.

Bears | Two Bears idle Thursday

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 08:01:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) are out of practice Thursday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Royal could end up starting in the slot, or he may not even make the team. He has been pretty underwhelming after a strong rookie season in 2008, and at age 30, he's a questionable WR5 flyer. Miller is 31, and his 34-439-5 line last season was by far the best of his career. The Bears don't have a lot of proven options to throw to, and he could be heavily involved. However, there are options with more upside in that low-end TE1 range. He's a safer TE2 with upside.

Bears | Zach Miller has concussion

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 10:06:44 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: Miller will be sidelined until he is able to pass all of his concussion tests. He will have several weeks to recover from the injury and should be ready for the start of the season. Miller should have a solid role in the passing game in 2016 and can be a No. 1 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Bears | Zach Miller in uncharted waters

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 09:33:43 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller is not rehabbing a major injury for the first offseason of his NFL career, which began in 2009. He has the starting job all to himself with the departure of TE Martellus Bennett, but Miller must master new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains' system this offseason to pick up where he left off.

Fantasy Tip: The bulk of Miller's production came in a seven-game stretch during the second half of the season. He was targeted a mere seven times in the first eight games of 2015. At 31 years old, a true breakout season may not be in the cards, but he should provide reasonably strong TE1 numbers as long as he remains on the field.

Bears | Zach Miller looking to keep it going

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 11:18:50 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller said he expects to be one of the offense's main weapons in the 2016 season. "I think everyone as a playmaker, you expect to be that," he said. "I'm going to have an opportunity to show that ability and really kind of just take over from how we left off last season. I showed there were opportunities where I could make plays. That's kind of how I'm going to approach how we begin the year." Miller accumulated 34 catches for 439 yards and a team-high five touchdown receptions in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was one of the more surprising contributors around the league last season, after missing the previous three years due to injuries. He has the chance to be a real sleeper in the upcoming campaign, as the team shipped out former starting tight end Martellus Bennett, meaning the job is basically Miller's to lose. Considering the rapport he built with Jay Cutler, there is hope he can build on last year's production and perhaps solidify himself as one of the best value picks at his position later in drafts.
