Chargers.com reports the San Diego Chargers are keeping their eyes open on the waiver wire right now for offensive linemen. The team still does not know if center Roman Fortin (knees) will be able to return to the field for the start of the regular season as he underwent surgery on his knees during the off-season and hasn't recovered enough as of yet for the season opener.

The Associated Press reports the San Diego Chargers are scanning the waiver wire for another center due to issues with starting C Roman Fortin's recovery from off-season knee surgery. His recovery hasn't gone as expected. He remains sidelined with soreness in his right knee and the Chargers aren't sure when he'll be back. Kendyl Jacox has been starting in his place and the team has no other center with backup experience. "It appears to be a very smart thing to do right now, with the unknowns about Roman," said coach Mike Riley.

The Union Tribune reports San Diego Chargers offensive line coach Joe Bugel said yesterday that Kendyl Jacox will remain his starting center even after Roman Fortin recovers from knee surgery.

The team's official site reports San Diego Chargers WRs Dondre Gilliam (hamstring) and Rodney Williams (hip flexor/groin), CBs Alex Molden (groin) and Troy Grant (bruised chest), RB Jermaine Fazande (ankle), FBs Terry Witherspoon (resting - knee) and Marty Maurer (knee), C Roman Fortin (knees), OTs Vaughn Parker (ankle) and Ed Ellis (knee), G Bobby Singh (quad), DTs Jamal Williams (knee) and Mike Mohring (knee), and DE Mike Pringley (resting – ankle) all missed practice on Monday. Coach Mike Riley said Molden is "pretty sore right now, but I think there’s a chance for him to play in the ballgame this weekend.”

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego Chargers offensive linemen Ed Ellis, Vaughn Parker and Roman Fortin will sit out of tonight's game against the Dolphins. Ellis felt pain his his left knee, and is undergoing tests today by the team. He'll be replaced by rookie Elliot Silvers.

The team's official site reports San Diego Chargers C Roman Fortin (knees) and OT Vaughn Parker (ankle), who sat out last night's game, will probably not play next week against Miami. CB Tay Cody (bruised chest ) will not miss any practice time. FB Marty Maurer sprained the MCL in his right knee Saturday night and according to coach Mike Riley he will be out "a couple of weeks." WR Dondre Gilliam suffered a hip injury and he is expected to miss anywhere between two to six weeks.

The team's official site reports San Diego Chargers starting C Roman Fortin returned to practice earlier today. Fortin previously had been forced to watch from the sidelines since the start of camp while rehabbing from off-season surgery on both knees. On Monday he only did light work. Fortin is a little ahead of schedule in his rehab. DL Adrian Dingle and Mike Pringley were able to return to the morning practice today. QB Dave Dickenson, RB Ronney Jenkins, FB/TE Marty Maurer, CB Alex Molden, LB Sam Rogers and DT Scott Shultz also were back on the field this morning. WR Jeff Graham returned as well. He had been at memorial services for the late Korey Stringer.

According to the team's official site, San Diego Chargers LB Junior Seau (Achilles'), C Kendyl Jacox (sick) and RB Mukala Sikyala (hamstring) returned to practice on Wednesday. Several players missed both practices on Wednesday. Included were DE Adrian Dingle (hamstring), RB Jermaine Fazande (ankle), RB Terrell Fletcher (hernia), C Roman Fortin (knee), TE Freddie Jones (hernia), TE Marty Maurer (quad), DE Mike Mohring (knee), DE Mike Pringley (ankle), DT Scott Schultz (hip flexor), LB Shannon Taylor (shoulder) and RB Terry Witherspoon (knee). CB Alex Molden (sore knee) and DE Marcellus Wiley (tired hamstring) missed Wednesday's afternoon practice.
