Raiders | Russell remains starter for now Tue, 17 Nov 2009 09:59:11 -0800 Steve Corkran, of the Oakland Tribune, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell remains the team's starting quarterback for the time being, in part because of a hamstring injury suffered by QB Bruce Gradkowski (hamstring) in Week 10. Head coach Tom Cable wants to meet with his quarterbacks, go over the plan for Week 11 and the rest of the season, and put that plan in motion, which could take more time than expected. "We haven't gotten anywhere with that decision," Cable said Monday, Nov. 16. "We hoped to be able to talk about it now, but we're not ready to do that." The discussions will be among Cable and his quarterbacks, with managing general partner Al Davis not influencing the decision, Cable said. QB Charlie Frye also is a viable option to start.
Raiders | Mistakes on consecutive plays reason for Russell benching Mon, 16 Nov 2009 14:00:10 -0800 Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said QB JaMarcus Russell misread consecutive plays when receivers were open, which lead Cable to bench Russell.
Raiders | Opponent says Russell does not read whole field Mon, 16 Nov 2009 13:52:42 -0800 Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Kansas City Chiefs SS Mike Brown said Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell usually only reads one side of the field, which makes it easier for a defense. "Obviously, he's been struggling a little bit. He's turned the ball over more than any quarterback in the league. That's something that we talked about. And usually he only looks at one side of the field. He doesn't read the whole field," Brown said.
Raiders | Russell unsure why he was benched Week 10 Mon, 16 Nov 2009 13:52:18 -0800 Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell said he is not sure why he was benched in Week 10. "I really can't explain it. I really don't know what to say about it, but that was his decision, and just move on from it," Russell said. Russell has completed only 47.1 percent of his passes this season and has thrown two touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Raiders | Russell starting to show some accountability Sun, 01 Nov 2009 01:39:57 -0700 Paul Gutierrez, of The Sacramento Bee, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell started to show some accountability last week, as opposed to previous post game acts when he refused to take full responsibility for interceptions, fumbles and other miscues. Russell started showing up earlier for team workouts during the week.
Raiders | Russell not yet in command of offense Tue, 27 Oct 2009 07:56:42 -0700 David White, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell fumbled the first snap of the game during Week 7 in part because he did not have the offense lined up in the right formation. Head coach Tom Cable called for a "four vertical" pass play from the Raiders' 10-yard line, thinking his aggressive call would catch the New York Jets by surprise. Russell, however, did not get the offense lined up in the right formation, then ignored the checkdown option while holding the ball too long. His ensuing sack and lost fumble were a predictable result. "You wouldn't expect to have that kind of mental error on the first play of the game," Cable said.
