The San Jose Mercury News reports San Francisco 49ers KR/WR Vinny Sutherland is serving a 30-day jail sentence in Santa Clara County Jail after voluntarily changing the weekend work forlough arrangement agreed to at his sentencing in October. Sutherland was convicted Oct. 7 of three misdemeanor counts from a May 18 drunken-driving arrest. He chose to change his penalty so that he could get back to a normal work schedule quicker. He has been in jail since Jan. 22.

The Ap reports Chicago Bears WR/KR Vinny Sutherland pleaded no contest to hit-and-run and drunken driving charges Monday. He will be sentenced at a later date, but is expected to serve at least 15 days in county jail.

The San Jose Mercury News reports San Francisco 49ers PR/WR Vinny Sutherland pleaded not guilty Tuesday to drunken driving, hit-and-run charges and driving with a suspended license stemming from an accident last month. Sutherland faces up to two years in county jail if convicted on all the charges. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for July 16.

Updating Monday's reports, Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers WR/KR Vinny Sutherland has been charged with driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run after leaving the scene of a single-car accident in Saratoga. Sutherland crashed his vehicle into two light posts and a tree.

SF49ers.com reports San Francisco 49ers WR Vinny Sutherland was involved in a single car accident early Saturday morning. He also had two other players, Josh Shaw and Kevin Curtis, as passengers. GM Terry Donahue said the team is very thankful no one was seriously injured. He said the team has been in contact with the Santa Clara County Sheriff Department and Sutherland will be charged with an undisclosed crime.

He has struggled on kickoff and punt returns, and last week he signaled for a fair catch against the Carolina Panthers and still ran with the ball. Coach Steve Mariucci said Sutherland is all the team has to do the job so no changes are planned.

The Contra Costa Times reports San Francisco 49ers CB Anthony Parker could be facing season-ending surgery to repair the left shoulder he dislocated last week. He and his agent and doctors are going to decide if he should just rehab and play and put it in a sling or harness, or if surgery is imminent," coach Steve Mariucci said. Backup CB Rashad Holman sprained his left ankle in practice Wednesday. The team is expected to promote CB Jimmy Williams from the practice squad. Return specialist Vinny Sutherland (groin) and CB Jason Webster (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday. QB Jeff Garcia (knee) and C Jeremy Newberry (left ankle) did not practice.

Charles Odum, of the Ledger-Enquirer, reports for the Sporting News that the Atlanta Falcons young wide receivers could be in for a heated battle come training camp. With the recent addition of Tony Martin, the Falcons have three established veterans in Martin, Terance Mathis and Shawn Jefferson. There may be only one or two roster slots for the younger WRs, as Jammi German, Eugene Baker and Brian Finneran will all be in a battle. Rookies Vinny Sutherland and Quentin McCord will also have to step up come training camp to make sure they make the team.

Dan Levak reports for AtlantaFalcons.com that Atlanta Falcons rookie TE Alge Crumpler rarely dropped a pass over the weekend during mini-camp. He also appeared to be very comfortable running all of the routes the team asked him to do. LB Matt Stewart looked good over the weekend and was all over the field during Saturday's work. He snagged an acrobatic interception off a QB Michael Vick throw. WR Vinny Sutherland showed he's able to run disciplined routes and displayed a nice pair of hands. He also appears to have that extra gear to kick into a faster speed, which could help down the road on special teams work.
