Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis said Wednesday, June 12, that undrafted free-agent P Tress Way could push P Adam Podlesh for the starting job in training camp and the preseason. "I view (Way) as a competitor," DeCamillis said. He has some positive things. He has a chance."

Chicago Bears PK Robbie Gould (calf) did not handle kickoff duties after straining his left calf in pre-game warm-ups in Week 14. Instead, P Adam Podlesh was used to kick off. Gould kicked both extra points but did not attempt a field goal.

Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher (knee), DL Stephen Paea (ankle), S Chris Conte (shoulder), LB Dom DeCicco (groin) and P Adam Podlesh (hip) all missed practice Monday, Aug. 27. Paea is not expected to miss the opener and likely could play if this was the regular season.

The Chicago Bears are concerned with P Adam Podlesh's (hip) left hip flexor injury. He is expected to see a specialist in the next few days to examine his ailment, and there is no timetable for him to return to the field. "I'm very concerned," special teams coach Dave Toub said. "It's a bad injury for a punter to have, a hip flexor, whether it's the kicking leg or it's the opposite leg, we're concerned. He's going to see a couple of specialists and we'll figure out what we need to do." PK Ryan Quigley will have first-team punting duties in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 24, but the team will look at other options. Free-agent P Matt Dodge (Giants) tried out Tuesday.
