Jones also said that it is not fair to get into the how that market affects a certain player. "Obviously, whatever happens in the markets affects others," Jones said. The team's scouting director, Larry Lacewell, indicated Friday, Jan. 11, that he would let him walk if it were up to him. "I don't know if I would (keep him)," Lacewell said. "I think I could find another guy that was a pretty good player. In my opinion, I'd rather look for a 4-3 guy. I think a rookie can come in. The mental end of it is so much easier than the 3-4 (for defensive ends/outside linebackers)."

The Dallas Cowboys could go into a 4-3 defensive alignment in their Week 8 game against the New York Giants due to injuries to LB Sean Lee (toe) and DE Sean Lissemore (ankle). "I think that's something they'll evaluate," DE Marcus Spears said of the defensive coaches. "We've been a multifaceted defense since the beginning of the year so guys have to prepare for 3-4 and 4-3. For us, that's the way we've been playing up to this point and I don't think that will change much." If the Cowboys went with a 4-3, a potential lineup would be at end DE Jason Hatcher and DE Kenyon Coleman with DT Josh Brent and DT Jay Ratliff the tackles.
