Cardinals | QBs working on fundamentals

The Arizona Cardinals believe a full offseason of work under new quarterbacks coach John McNulty will mean improved play from QBs Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. The quarterbacks have been working on improving their fundamentals so that when a play breaks down, the fundamentals don't. Last season, Skelton had a tendency to not move his feet when he had to go to a second option. Sometimes the pass got there, sometimes it didn't. In the same situations, Kolb would just start moving, rather than adjust his feet to throw to a secondary target. "If you get out of rhythm with your feet," McNulty said, "then the whole thing is broken down. You may end up moving, getting out of the way and making a play, but as far as what the play is supposed to be, it's been lost and you're playing catch-up. More times than not, bad things happen."

Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb said he wishes the team would have communicated to him that they were pursuing QB Peyton Manning before he signed with the Denver Broncos. "Without getting into too much detail about our conversation, I just said in the future if you can just communicate with me, I can take it, if this is the route you're going," Kolb said. "I'd just rather hear it from him than the ticker. He agreed. That's how relationships grow and that's where we're heading." Kolb will be battling QB John Skelton for the starting job this season.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb (concussion) said Monday, April 16, that it was more than three weeks after the season when he felt normal again after battling a concussion. "To be honest with you, when I first went home it was still pretty severe," Kolb said. "It kind of worried me because I figured once I got away from the game it would clear up pretty fast. But it didn't and I stayed in contact with our guys here. Within three or four days after that three-week period it was fine. I was glad to be feeling back to normal."

The Arizona Cardinals could consider restructuring QB Kevin Kolb's contract in order to save around $5 million in salary cap space by changing his roster bonus to a bonus that would allow them to spread the cost over the course of the contract.

The Arizona Cardinals are unlikely to land free-agent QB Peyton Manning (Colts). They must decide by 2 p.m. MDT Friday, March 16, whether they'll give QB Kevin Kolb a $7 million bonus. If Manning chooses Arizona, the team is expected to release Kolb before the bonus is triggered. Manning plans to notify the Cardinals of his decision before that deadline, but one source is already saying the Cardinals are out.
