Mets | Alejandro De Aza working at 1B

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:47:15 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza has been working out at first base in an attempt to create more flexibility for the team and increase his playing time. He's unlikely to start at first much because of 1B Lucas Duda, but it could give manager Terry Collins late-game options. De Aza has only 45 plate appearances this year.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza has just seven hits in his 42 at-bats (.167) with a homer and a single RBI. He offers a little bit of power and speed but is a very mediocre option for NL-only owners because of his lack of playing time. He's unlikely to see enough starts at first base to gain eligibility there unless Duda is injured.

Mets | Curtis Granderson, David Wright out

Sun, 15 May 2016 12:24:44 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson and 3B David Wright are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Sunday, May 15. OF Alejandro De Aza will start in right field and is batting first, while 3B Eric Campbell will start at third base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza is batting .189 this season and is not a great fantasy option for owners. Owners can also avoid Campbell since he is also hitting under .200 this season.

Mets | Curtis Granderson takes a seat

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:51:20 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in right field and is batting leadoff against Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza has just five hits in 26 at-bats (.192) this year but does have a home run, and a spot atop the booming Mets offense could make him worth a deep sleeper selection in daily formats. The matchup for De Aza is favorable, as well.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes still out of the lineup

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:11:33 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (thigh) is not in the starting lineup against the Cincinnati Reds Monday, April 25. OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field and batting seventh against Cincinnati SP Raisel Iglesias Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to be patient with Cespedes as he recovers from the bruise on his thigh. He is off to a nice start with 11 runs, five home runs, 14 RBI and a .288/.364/.627 slash line through 66 plate appearances. De Aza lands in a tough matchup against Iglesias (3.09 ERA through his first four starts), and De Aza is just 4-for-22 to start the season, which makes him a risky fantasy option Monday.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws a start

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:27:35 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field and hitting ninth against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Friday, April 15, with OF Yoenis Cespedes moving to designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza provides very middling stolen base and power numbers and won't see much playing time in New York unless an injury happens ahead of him. He's hitless in seven at-bats to start the year and is a desperation source of salary cap relief in daily games tonight.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws a start

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 09:08:02 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is hitting ninth and playing left field Tuesday, April 5, with OF Yoenis Cespedes shifting to center field.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like the Mets are instilling confidence in Cespedes after his blunder opening night putting him in CF. De Aza doesn't pack enough punch and isn't likely to see enough playing time to be a factor outside of NL-only depth. Cespedes may be worth a look in DFS against Chris Young after that slice of humble pie.

Mets | Six teams pursuing Alejandro De Aza

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 08:51:40 -0700

Six teams have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza. However, the Mets are looking for a trade partner that is willing to take on De Aza's entire $5.75 million contract.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets signed De Aza to a one-year deal in December prior to Yoenis Cespedes opting to return to the club. At the time, De Aza was expected to platoon with Juan Lagares in center field but now he's an expensive fifth outfielder. He has minimal fantasy value as long as he's on the Mets' roster.

Rangers | Texas eyeing Alejandro De Aza

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:56:28 -0800

The Texas Rangers are "keeping tabs" on New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza in case OF Josh Hamilton's (knee) knee woes continue. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has acknowledged that they could trade De Aza because they have an excess of outfielders. The Rangers are also considering free-agent OFs David Murphy (Angels) and Will Venable (Rangers).

Fantasy Tip: As things stand now as a fifth outfielder for the Mets, De Aza has very little fantasy value. However, if he's traded or the Mets suffer an injury that would open up significant playing time, he could be attractive in deep mixed and single-universe leagues late in drafts.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza not on trade block

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:37:28 -0800

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is not yet on the trade block despite the Mets' excess of outfielders. They see little reason to make a trade before spring training, according to major league sources. De Aza will make $5.75 million this year, and the Mets want to make sure all their outfielders remain healthy. The Mets would also need De Aza's approval to trade him if they did so before June 15.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza is effectively a fifth outfielder for the Mets right now, which makes him unattractive to most fantasy owners. However, an injury or trade could open up significant playing time and make him more attractive in single-universe leagues.

Mets | Michael Conforto to play some RF

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 12:16:33 -0800

New York Mets OFs Michael Conforto and Alejandro De Aza are expected to be exposed to right field in spring training, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson doesn't expect OF Yoenis Cespedes to play any right field. Conforto played right field seven times as a freshman in college in 2012 but has mainly played in left. De Aza has appeared for 52 starts in his career in right field. Cespedes could play center field against righties and left field against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: The future is bright for the lefty swinging Conforto after he slugged nine home runs in just 56 games in his first taste of major league action. He'll be in a platoon role in the outfield for New York, and he must improve against lefties (.214/.267/.214) before he'll become anything more than a late-round selection in deep mixed leagues.
