Mets | Yoenis Cespedes, James Loney out Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:29:24 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (quadriceps) and 1B James Loney are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, July 10. INF Wilmer Flores will bat third and play first base, OF Juan Lagares will bat sixth and play center field and OF Alejandro De Aza will bat eighth and start in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Flores is 11-for-22 (.500) with a double, five home runs and 10 RBI over the past week, so he should be inserted into all fantasy lineups. Lagares is also worthy of lineup consideration, since he is a .406 career hitter versus Gonzalez in 32 at-bats, with three doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI. De Aza is 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles against Gonzalez and is 4-for-10 at the plate this month.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes likely out through break

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 15:52:54 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (quad) is not in the lineup against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer on Saturday, July 9. OF Alejandro De Aza will take his spot in center field and bat eighth. Cespedes has already been replaced by Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce on the NL All-Star roster, which suggests he won't play Sunday, June 10 either.

Fantasy Tip: Get him out of all fantasy lineups immediately. Cespedes told reporters he missed four to five days the last time he had a quad strain, so he is a good bet to be back in the heart of the Mets' order when they begin play next weekend, meaning he should be in all fantasy lineups at that time as well.

Mets | Curtis Granderson scratched late

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 15:16:57 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson (calf) was a late scratch against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 29. Mets OF Brandon Nimmo draws into the lineup and will bat eighth, and Mets OF Alejandro De Aza will lead off against Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Sub out Granderson where you can Wednesday, and it's likely best to avoid both De Aza and Nimmo given the daunting matchup against Scherzer. The calf injury has hindered Granderson of late, so check back for updates on his status before locking him into your lineups, especially in daily contests.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws in vs. Nats

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 14:14:26 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in left field and batting seventh against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday, June 29. OF Brandon Nimmo is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: This is likely a move to provide the rookie Nimmo a break from facing Scherzer. View De Aza as a desperation fantasy option Wednesday, whereas Nimmo remains a viable depth piece in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues with the fantasy upside to gain traction in shallower setups.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza to stick around

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:42:05 -0700

The New York Mets have not discussed designating OF Alejandro De Aza for assignment yet, according to a team source.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza is batting just .169 with a home run and five RBI through 89 at-bats and is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief in daily fantasy games. He will continue to serve as the No. 4 outfielder on the team's depth chart, behind OFs Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson and Brandon Nimmo.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza in the lineup

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 15:04:43 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is hitting seventh Saturday, June 25, and playing left field.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza could see regular playing time with the demotion of Michael Conforto for the next few days. He's hitting just .176 this season and isn't worth a flyer today against Julio Teheran.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza playing left field

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 12:33:45 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza will bat seventh and play left field against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: With Michael Conforto being optioned to Class AAA Las Vegas earlier this afternoon and top prospect OF Brandon Nimmo on his way to join the parent club, De Aza receives the start in left field Saturday. He is batting just .176 in 85 at-bats this season and is not a viable option in any fantasy format.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza draws into the lineup

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:52:46 -0700

New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: With Yoenis Cespedes out with a wrist injury, De Aza should see a nice run of playing time in center field. However, at this point, De Aza is nothing more desperation fantasy option in all setups. He sits with a .165/.224/.241 slash line, after all.

Mets | Michael Conforto receives injection

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:40:38 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) received a cortisone shot in his left wrist Monday, June 13, before he underwent an MRI exam. He was diagnosed with strained cartilage in his wrist, but he thinks he can return to the lineup within a few days without needing surgery. OF Juan Lagares (teeth) had a dental issue Tuesday, June 14, and is feeling "real sore," so OF Alejandro De Aza replaced Conforto. Conforto is hitless in his last 11 at-bats and is hitting .096 (5-for-52) since May 12. The Mets haven't seriously considered sending Conforto to the minors to work on his swing yet.

Fantasy Tip: Wrist and hand injuries for hitters can be debilitating and sap them of their power, so this injury is certainly something to watch closely, especially with the way Conforto has tailed off at the plate of late. When healthy, Conforto can be one of the more impactful young lefty sticks. For now, keep him benched until he returns and proves that his wrist isn't bothering him.

Mets | Michael Conforto out Tuesday

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:53:38 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 14, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. OF Alejandro De Aza replaces Conforto and will lead off against Pirates SP Jameson Taillon.

Fantasy Tip: Conforto hasn't been hitting well, but the team says this is not a demotion and he is merely getting rest to let the wrist heal. De Aza, despite the leadoff spot, doesn't carry much fantasy value because his bat has been weak in the past seven days (.067 average). You may want to look elsewhere for production.
