Mets | Michael Conforto to play some RF

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 12:16:33 -0800

New York Mets OFs Michael Conforto and Alejandro De Aza are expected to be exposed to right field in spring training, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson doesn't expect OF Yoenis Cespedes to play any right field. Conforto played right field seven times as a freshman in college in 2012 but has mainly played in left. De Aza has appeared for 52 starts in his career in right field. Cespedes could play center field against righties and left field against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: The future is bright for the lefty swinging Conforto after he slugged nine home runs in just 56 games in his first taste of major league action. He'll be in a platoon role in the outfield for New York, and he must improve against lefties (.214/.267/.214) before he'll become anything more than a late-round selection in deep mixed leagues.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza to Mets

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 10:50:42 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent OF Alejandro De Aza (Giants) agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the New York Mets Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Fantasy Tip: The plan is for De Aza to platoon in center field with Juan Lagares in 2016. Neither player has much power or speed for a center fielder, and they won't see full-time at-bats, meaning neither is very attractive for anything more than depth in NL-only universes.

Mets | Alejandro De Aza close with Mets

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 10:43:19 -0800

Free-agent OF Alejandro De Aza (Giants) is close to signing with the New York Mets, according to a source. De Aza will receive a one-year, $4.5 million deal and will primarily serve as the left-handed hitting complement to OF Juan Lagares in center field. De Aza hit a combined .261 with seven home runs and 32 RBI in 264 at-bats with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants last year.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that De Aza and Lagares would form a platoon in center field right away caps their fantasy value. Neither player has a ton of power or speed, either, so they're nothing more than depth pieces in single-universe leagues.

Mets | New York prefers Denard Span

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 11:02:17 -0800

The New York Mets prefer signing free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals) over free-agent OFs Will Venable (Rangers), Alejandro De Aza (Giants) or Gerardo Parra (Orioles), but Span is coming off hip surgery and is looking for a multi-year deal. Parra's defense has slipped in recent years and might be looking for too rich of a contract. The Mets continue to look for a left-handed hitting center fielder who could platoon with OF Juan Lagares.

Fantasy Tip: Span was having a fine season for the Nationals last year before injury struck, as he hit .301 (74-for-275) with 11 stolen bases and 38 runs in 61 games. Span is mainly useful for his contact-oriented approach, on-base skills and runs, but part-time duty with New York would limit his fantasy upside and relegate him mainly to deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Giants | Alejandro De Aza out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 11:13:47 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Alejandro De Aza is not starting Sunday, Sept. 27, against the Oakland Athletics. OF Jarrett Parker is in left field and hitting seventh against Athletics SP Sean Nolin.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second day in a row De Aza ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is sitting, both times because a lefty was on the hill for Oakland. Parker ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is blazing at bat with a .462-5-10 line in the last week and the team may be looking at him as an option for 2016.

Giants | Angel Pagan returns to lineup

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 11:10:34 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan will bat leadoff and play center field against Oakland Athletics SP Barry Zito Saturday, Sept. 26. OF Jarrett Parker, who played center field Friday, Sept. 25, will play left field Saturday, while OF Alejandro De Aza receives the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Pagan ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is 2-for-6 with a solo home run in his career versus Zito and is hitting .305 with three home runs and eight RBIs during the month of September. He is a solid value play in FantasyScore today.

Giants | Alejandro De Aza returns to lineup

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 11:32:46 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Alejandro De Aza will bat second and play left field against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jeremy Hellickson Sunday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is just 3-for-21 at the plate over the past seven days and is not a great FantasyScore option this afternoon.

Giants | Alejandro De Aza not in lineup

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 11:15:45 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Alejandro De Aza is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Saturday, Sept. 19. OF Juan Perez will bat sixth and play left field.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is only batting .200 through 15 at-bats this month but his .300 mark against southpaws this year could make him an attractive option for FantasyScore owners in dire need of salary cap relief.

Giants | Alejandro De Aza playing left field

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 17:58:01 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Alejandro De Aza will bat second and play left field against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Friday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Don't be surprised if De Aza ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) receives a great deal of playing time down the stretch for San Francisco, with Nori Aoki (concussion), Gregor Blanco (concussion) and Hunter Pence (oblique) out of action. He is 3-for-12 in seven games since joining the team.

Giants | LF to be revolving door for SF

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 16:00:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants OFs Nori Aoki, Gregor Blanco, Juan Perez and Alejandro De Aza will rotate in left field based on matchups, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: This configuration will likely hold up until Hunter Pence returns from his injury. Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has the most fantasy value, as he'll likely be in there most of the time against righties, and he has the best bat of the bunch. In the right matchups, Blanco is hard to ignore at that salary. The others will be hit or miss down the stretch.
