Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (elbow) and P Sean West (hamstring) are sidelined with injuries. West was expected to begin the season in the rotation for Triple-A New Orleans. Yelich is on the seven-day disabled list with Single-A Jupiter, but isn't expected miss more than a week.

The Miami Marlins optioned P Omar Poveda and P Chris Hatcher to Triple-A New Orleans and optioned P Arquimedes Caminero to Single-A Jupiter. They also reassigned P Jose Alvarez, P Corey Madden, P A.J. Ramos, P Rob Rasmussen and C Jake Jefferies to minor league camp. SP Sean West was outrighted to the minors.

Miami Marlins P Sean West has impressed in the early going this spring, and he could wind up taking one of the last spots in the bullpen if he keeps it up. He is out of minor league options, so he could be a trade candidate, too. Manager Ozzie Guillen said there is no way West shouldn't be on a major league roster with the stuff he has.

Updating a previous report, Florida Marlins SP Anibal Sanchez (shin, ankle) has been scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday, March 15, and will be replaced by SP Sean West, according to Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post.

Florida Marlins SPs Chris Volstad and Sean West are expected to compete for the fifth spot in the rotation next spring, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez. The other four starters will be Josh M. Johnson, Javier Vazquez, Ricky Nolasco and Anibal Sanchez.

Florida Marlins SP Alex Sanabia will be moving to the bullpen to refine his slider, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. SP Sean West is a strong candidate to be called up and enter the rotation. West is 4-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 11 starts at Triple-A New Orleans this year.
