Chargers | Uncomfortable with Robert Meachem?

Mon, 26 Nov 2012 19:05:53 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Robert Meachem did not appear on the stat sheet in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens. "He's in it, but it comes down to what we're using in terms of personnel groups," head coach Norv Turner said Monday, Nov. 26. "We have a comfort level with (WR Malcom Floyd). Malcom plays all the positions. We've tried to get (WR Danario Alexander) going and he's made some plays for us. That's where we're at right now."

Chargers | Malcom Floyd takes over as Z receiver

Sat, 17 Nov 2012 19:42:50 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd has taken over as the team's "Z" receiver. The "Z" typically lines up on the same side as TE Antonio Gates, and Floyd was moved there in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to create mismatches and make opponents pick their poison. The position was previously manned by WR Robert Meachem. "With Antonio and I lining up next to each other, we put a strain on whatever side we're on," Floyd said.

Chargers | Danario Alexander says there is more to come

Fri, 02 Nov 2012 17:06:30 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander said he is still learning the team's playbook and working at getting on the same page as QB Philip Rivers. Rivers and Alexander worked together closely the past two weeks to build chemistry. Alexander caught three passes for a team-high 61 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9, which he said is just the beginning. Rivers was impressed with Alexander's performance. "Danario was big and he was great. He had a third down slant way down in there inside the ten, then a couple more end routes, an out route that got us going. He was good, he was comfortable. It's just amazing," Rivers said of his new weapon.

Fantasy Tip: Alexander is worth the look if you're hurting at wide receiver. Robert Meachem has been a huge disappointment thus far for the Chargers, plus he is dealing with an injury, as is WR Eddie Royal. Vincent Brown, who the team hoped would be able to return, appears to still be at least several weeks away from hitting the field if he does at all.

Wed, 03 Oct 2012 18:56:08 -0700

"I see it all the time on the practice field with he and Eddie Royal that we're making progress and we're doing a lot of good things. It will show up in games soon, or sometime along the way when I don't expect it or you don't expect it."

Chargers | Robert Meachem having bad luck

Mon, 17 Sep 2012 23:02:01 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Robert Meachem has two catches through two games and failed to record a catch during the team's Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans, but head coach Norv Turner doesn't sound worried about it. "Robert is just having bad luck. On the fourth play of the game (against the Titans) he was running as open as you can be and Tyronne Green pulled and overshot his guy. He was surprised at how flat the defensive end was. Philip (Rivers) had to run out and Robert almost caught it. If the protection was clean, he would have had a 50-yard touchdown there. He would have had a few other opportunities and some things seemed to go wrong in the middle there. Not by fault of Robert or Philip. I'm excited about the threat that Robert gives us and he was hauling," Turner said.

Chargers | Robert Meachem showing more versatility

Fri, 08 Jun 2012 22:44:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Friday, June 8, that WR Robert Meachem has been more versatile than when he looked at videotape from his play with the New Orleans Saints. "Meachem can get up the field. He's a deep threat, but he's also a more versatile receiver than I thought he'd be when you looked at tape," Turner said. "He can do a lot more things than he did in New Orleans because they didn't need those things from him because they had other guys. But he's an outstanding route (runner), he's a good 'feel' receiver and he does have outstanding hands."

Chargers | Robert Meachem signs

Tue, 13 Mar 2012 21:30:38 -0700

The San Diego Chargers agreed to a four-year deal with free-agent WR Robert Meachem (Saints) Tuesday, March 13. The deal is worth $25.9 million, with $14 million fully guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Meachem will be asked to replace Vincent Jackson as a the team's deep threat, but you can't expect him to be a true No. 1. The Chargers spread the ball around so much that Meachem's reception total should be low (after all, Jackson never caught more than 68 passes in a single season with the Chargers). The offense may return to more of a ground-control emphasis, with Antonio Gates being the featured target in the passing game. Meachem can be considered a high-upside No. 4 or a slightly risky third fantasy receiver because of his issues with drops.
