Sat, 04 May 2013 23:55:29 -0700 Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee refuted claims from Toronto broadcaster Dirk Hayhurst that he doctors his pitches, a claim Hayhurst also made to Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz. "That's a completely inaccurate statement. I'll go get you my hat right now. I've been wearing the same hat for 3 years. It's sweat and rosin," Lee said.
Thu, 02 May 2013 09:39:08 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz improved to 6-0 with his win over the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, May 1, by tossing seven shutout innings and allowing only two hits. He's the first pitcher to six wins this year, and he's gone seven-plus innings in each of his six starts and has struck out at least six, hitting double digits twice, in five of those starts. Buchholz hasn't allowed more than two runs in any start and has fanned 47 and walked only 16. His 44 innings are tops in baseball and his 1.01 ERA is leading the American League. Buchholz improved to 7-2 with a 1.49 ERA in his career at Rogers Centre, which is the best mark for pitchers who've thrown at least 55 innings at the field.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 11:15:28 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed two runs in 7 2/3 innings to win his fifth game of the season against the Houston Astros Thursday, April 25. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia said Buchholz didn't have his best stuff on the mound, either. Buchholz struck out 10 batters in the game, and six of them went down looking. Over 177 2/3 innings since May 27 of last year, he has an ERA of only 2.89. "He's done a very good job of pitching ahead in the count, most of all," said manager John Farrell, "and it's allowed him to pitch to a scouting report and exploit some holes of given hitters." Buchholz has given up just one home run this year.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 19:15:17 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed two earned runs while scattering eight hits over eight innings in a win Saturday, April 20, against the Kansas City Royals. He also struck out six batters in the 104-pitch quality start, improving to 4-0 while his ERA actually rose to 0.90. Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has re-emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into his next scheduled start Thursday, April 25, in a very favorable matchup against the Houston Astros and SP Philip Humber.

Fantasy Tip: Back problems have haunted Buchholz and might have been the sole reason for his slow start a year ago. He showed increased dominance in the second half, giving optimism for profit in 2013.
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 17:04:59 -0800 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (hamstring) threw 40 pitches over two simulated innings against C/1B Mike Napoli (hips) Tuesday, Feb. 26, and felt good. "It felt more comfortable. I've always felt comfortable since we've been throwing off a mound out of the windup," Buchholz said. "Out of the stretch, I started to find a balance point toward the end. I threw 10 extra pitches to get a good feel for it. The last 10 I threw, I was staying on line and able to get to a balance point without jumping to home plate. I felt really good there at the end."
