Red Sox | Clay Buchholz likes Tampa Bay

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 21:26:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out 10 in a road start against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, April 23, and he has allowed just one run in his last 27 2/3 innings in Tampa Bay.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from a disastrous outing against the Yankees, Buchholz ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been solid this season. He has allowed two earned runs or less and struck out at least seven in his other three starts, and he makes a nice value play at the pitcher spot at FantasyScore right now.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz starting Sunday

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 13:12:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz will start Sunday, April 12, against the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) struck out nine in the opener and looked fairly solid. In starts at Yankee Stadium, Buchholz is 4-3 with a 4.05 ERA. With the Yankees putting up Masahiro Tanaka, Buchholz looks like a fairly strong start for the money.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz off to good start

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 15:56:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz tossed seven shutout innings while giving up three hits and striking out nine with one walk against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, April 6, for his first win of 2015. Buchholz threw 94 pitches in the outing. "I felt really good getting ahead with the curveball. If I missed with it, throwing it again getting a strike, getting the count back to even, then sinker, only a few cutters today, but changeup, curveball, sinker were basically what I used, felt really good," Buchholz said.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is primed to have a bounceback 2015 season after tweaking some mechanics this spring. With a very potent lineup behind him, too, he may soon become a popular FantasyScore selection.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz named OD starter

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 07:31:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz has been named the Opening Day starter by manager John Farrell Sunday, March 29. Buchholz will start Monday, April 6, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) regressed to a 5.34 ERA last season after posting a number of 1.74 in 2013. It says a lot about the state of the Red Sox starting rotation that Buchholz and his 3.92 career ERA can be named the leader of the staff. Buchholz and the Red Sox will have an excellent opportunity to start the season on the right foot with a series against the Phillies, and Buchholz will be a strong, cheap option as a second starting pitcher in FantasyScore on opening day, with most other options carrying a high price tag.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz working in new mechanics

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 15:29:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz tweaked his delivery during the offseason to help maintain balance and keep his body and arm in sync. So far this spring he has a 1.80 ERA with 12 strikeouts through 10 innings.

Fantasy Tip: While everyone writes Buchholz ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) off after a career-worst 2014 season, there could be sneaky profit potential late in drafts. At worst, he is a player to monitor and add if he parlays his strong spring into the season. Opening the season against the Philadelphia Phillies isn't a horrible matchup to turn to Buchholz as a high-risk, high-reward second starter in FantasyScore contests.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz feels healthy

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 13:17:55 -0800

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz said he feels strong and healthy heading into the 2015 season. He noted that staying that way is the focus now.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz's 2014 season began with velocity concerns and ended with a 5.34 ERA. While health isn't currently an issue, Buchholz is likely best left for streaming and daily usage in favorable matchups. In seasonal formats, he is a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues, at best.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz to have normal offseason

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 13:20:28 -0700

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (knee) is expected to have a normal offseason after undergoing surgery on his right knee Tuesday, Sept. 30. "It's a meniscus repair," general manager Ben Cherington said. "This is something that he's had some off-and-on symptoms for some time now. Not something that prevents him from pitching, but we just want to use the offseason to take care of this. It's a relatively routine procedure. Pretty quick recovery, shouldn't affect his offseason." This is something that Buchholz has dealt with for at least one season. Buchholz went 8-11 with a 5.34 ERA in 28 starts.
