Red Sox | Clay Buchholz continues rolling

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 16:04:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed a run on six hits and no walks while fanning eight in his complete-game win over the Houston Astros Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz has a 0.87 ERA and is 4-0 in his last four starts. At $6,500 (13.0% of cap), he's a great play for his next start on FantasyScore against the New York Yankees.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz wins third straight

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 20:17:14 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz allowed one run, five hits and no walks over eight innings in a win Monday, June 29, against the Toronto Blue Jays to win his third consecutive start. He is now 10-3 with a 2.21 ERA in 15 career starts against the Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($6,500; or 13.0% of cap) is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 22 innings over his past three starts. Needless to say, he has re-emerged as a must-start FantasyScore option until he cools off.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz drawing interest

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 11:32:20 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays are interested in Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) went 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA in six starts during the month of June but the Red Sox haven't been actively shopping him. He is scheduled to make his next start against the Toronto Blue Jays Monday, June 29.

Pirates | Bucs on the prowl for upgrades

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 15:55:41 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking for upgrades at first base and for their starting rotation with the trade deadline nearing. The Pirates have been scouting the Boston Red Sox and could be interested in SP Clay Buchholz and 1B Mike Napoli. Buchholz is making $12 million in 2015 and has $13.5 million club options for the next two seasons. The Pirates also may have interest in Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Harang as a cheap addition to their bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has shown nice improvement of late and would surely benefit from a move to the National League and to a pitcher-friendly venue. Napoli ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has 10 home runs but has been a huge disappointment otherwise, and a move to Pittsburgh would only further drop his value. Harang ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) who already has very little fantasy intrigue, would lose any value left with a move to a relief role.

Red Sox | BOS unlikely to deal Clay Buchholz

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 18:46:49 -0700

The Boston Red Sox have not shown any interest in trading SP Clay Buchholz, according to multiple major league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Wednesday, June 24, Buchholz ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) had a 3.87 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 86 innings this season, making him the bright spot in an otherwise bleak Boston starting rotation. His contract includes a $13 million team option for 2016 and a $13.5 million team option for 2017, but the BoSox can easily afford to keep him for both seasons.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz limiting righties of late

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 13:43:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz has allowed just a single home run to right-handed batters over his past 23 outings. Right-handed hitters do have a .294 batting average against him this season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has been a solid mid-tier arm for the majority of the season. Since he allowed 10 runs in his second start of the season, Buchholz has a 3.33 ERA through 75 2/3 innings with 72 strikeouts over 12 starts. It is likely best to fade him against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, but in favorable matchups, he stands as a nice value play for FantasyScore players.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz struggles in first inning

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 13:36:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz has allowed 13 runs and 17 hits in the first inning through his 14 starts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Just shy of 31% of Buchholz's ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) 43 runs against have come in the first inning, so if he can navigate the top of the lineup in the opening frame he stands to have a solid outing. It is also worth noting 10 of his runs against also came in his second start of the season, and since, Buchholz has a respectable 3.33 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 75 2/3 innings. He is a viable FantasyScore option in favorable matchups. The Baltimore Orioles aren't a plus-matchup Wednesday.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz stymies Twins

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 18:55:52 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz threw eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts during Boston's 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday, June 2. Buchholz allowed just three hits and issued two walks.

Fantasy Tip: It was Buccholz's ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) fourth consecutive start with two earned runs or fewer allowed. And outside three rough outings, he has limited opponents and pitched well. FantasyScore players should view the Boston hurler as a value start when he lands in a favorable matchup. Up next, Buchholz will faces the Oakland Athletics Sunday, June 7, and he is worth considering for usage in daily contests given his recent run.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz pushed to Tuesday

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 20:20:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz will start Tuesday, June 2, against the Minnesota Twins after his scheduled start Monday, June 1, was rained out.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz went just 1-3 in the month of May, but he had a respectable 3.31 ERA with quality starts in each of the past four outings. He has received a total of just seven runs over his past five outings. FantasyScore players can still trust him at $5,400 (or 10.8% of cap), especially since he allowed just one run over 7 1/3 innings last time out in Minnesota.

Red Sox | No issues for Clay Buchholz

Fri, 15 May 2015 22:03:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (ankle) allowed one run on three hits while striking out 11 in a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has had a few brilliant starts this year, but he has also had several duds. He is a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore, and you should only take a chance on him when he is facing a soft lineup.
