"He could be out a month, but who knows?" Mariucci said. Eric Johnson and Justin Swift will continue to fill in for Clark while he is absent.

Johnson will continue to split time with second-year player Justin Swift as they fill in for Greg Clark, who remains sidelined indefinitely after off-season surgery on his right hamstring. The San Francisco Chronicle reports San Francisco 49ers rookie TE Eric Johnson, a seventh-round selection, has impressed the team so much that he'll rotate with Justin Swift at the starting tight end position this weekend. He could even end up as the starter for the first game of the year. Johnson is a former receiver that head coach Steve Mariucci stated should be kept an eye on.

Cam Inman reports for the Contra Costa Times, as an update to a previous story, San Francisco 49ers TE Greg Clark had follow-up surgery on his right hamstring Tuesday. Coach Steve Mariucci said Clark could miss the team's first regular season game. He had a portion of his medial hamstring tendon removed during Tuesday's surgery. "The prognosis is it'll be two to four weeks before he's back out (practicing)," Mariucci said. He added worse case would be four to six weeks. TE Justin Swift will continue to see the majority of first-string snaps.

The San Jose Mercury News reports San Francisco 49ers TE Greg Clark has not come along as quickly as hoped in his rehabilitation from hamstring surgery. He remains on the PUP list for the team. Coach Steve Mariucci initially thought Clark could rejoin team practices by late next week. Now it looks like he could miss a second consecutive training camp because of injury. "He's simply not ready to participate yet," Mariucci said Saturday. With Clark out, Justin Swift, the backup last season, has taken the bulk of the practice snaps along with Brian Jennings.

According to the team's official site, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator said TE Greg Clark will remain the team's starter, but the team needs to add some depth behind him. "Greg is coming off a really good year," says 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. "He had career highs in yards and receptions and he stayed healthy all season." Clark's backups are Justin Swift, Terrence Dupree and Brian Jennings. Swift is expected to be given every chance to hang onto his No. 2 TE role. Dupree spent his rookie season on IR with a broken ankle. Jennings, also a long-snapper, saw no action at TE. Knapp also indicated the TE position could see an increased workload this season.
