Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said C Carlos Santana will serve as the team's everyday catcher this year. C Lou Marson will receive most of the starts against left-handed pitching, when Santana can move to either DH or first base. "Last year, I was able to do more because of the first-base situation," Acta said. "This year is a different story. We do have a first baseman, so Carlos is going to be our everyday guy (at catcher). We're just going to get Lou in there when we can, when we feel Carlos deserves a (rest) and when we feel the matchup is right for Lou." Acta said Marson wouldn't be the designated catcher for certain pitchers.

The Cleveland Indians signed 2B Jason Kipnis, C Lou Marson, OF Shelley Duncan, Ps Vinnie Pestano, Frank Herrmann, Zach McAllister, Nick Hagadone and Scott Barnes, OF Ezequiel Carrera and INFs Lonnie Chisenhall, Russ Canzler and Juan Diaz to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta is looking for a third catcher in case of injury. Cs Luke Carlin, Chun-Hsiu Chen, Michel Hernandez and Matt Pagnozzi are all in camp as spring training invitees. Cs Carlos Santana and Lou Marson are the top two catchers on the depth chart.
