Dejan Kovacevic, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Masumi Kuwata has informed the team's management that he plans to announce his retirement Wednesday, March 26. The team offered to let him pitch one last game Wednesday but he declined. The team also offered Kuwata a coaching position, which he also declined.

Updating previous items, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Masumi Kuwata has agreed to a minor-league contract and was invited to spring training. Kuwata is working out this offseason in Australia. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal.

Dejan Kovacevic, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with RP Masumi Kuwata on a one-year, minor league contract. The Pirates have removed Kuwata from their inactive list and have invited him to spring training.

Updating a previous report, Jenifer Langosch, of Pirates.MLB.com, reports the Pittsburgh Pirates and free-agent RP Masumi Kuwata (Pirates) have not finalized a contract, contrary to previous reports. However, Kuwata did state that negotiations were going well.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Masumi Kuwata has accepted the team's offer to return, agreeing to a one-year, minor league contract with an invitation to the major league camp in spring training. No financial terms were disclosed.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports free-agent RP Masumi Kuwata, who made 19 appearances for the Pittsburgh Pirates last year and posted a 9.43 ERA, has informed general manager Neal Huntington he would like to return to the team next season. Kuwata is flying from Japan to the United States for a medical exam early next week. He is willing to take a one-year, minor-league contract, as he did last season.

Jenifer Langosch, of MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Masumi Kuwata is expected to turn down an invitation to play with Triple-A Indianapolis and will likely return to Japan with his family, according to several members of the Japanese press in Pittsburgh.
