Wed, 26 Mar 2008 10:12:13 -0700 Dejan Kovacevic, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Pirates RP Masumi Kuwata has informed the team's management that he plans to announce his retirement Wednesday, March 26. The team offered to let him pitch one last game Wednesday but he declined. The team also offered Kuwata a coaching position, which he also declined.

Kuwata is working out this offseason in Australia. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal.

Kuwata is flying from Japan to the United States for a medical exam early next week. He is willing to take a one-year, minor-league contract, as he did last season.
