Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria (oblique) will throw later this week, and he is not expected to miss much more than the allotted 15 days, according to manager Brad Ausmus.
Fantasy Tip: Soria is worth considering in deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats. He might not save another game this season, though.

Updating a previous report, the Detroit Tigers have placed RP Joakim Soria (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left oblique. He suffered the injury while warming up before the 10th inning of the game against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, Aug. 9.

Detroit Tigers CL Joe Nathan will continue to be the team's closer, according to manager Brad Ausmus.
Fantasy Tip: Nathan has been up-and-down all season. Actually, most of the time it has been the latter. Joakim Soria (side) went down with an injury, but he could inch back into the mix if he doesn't miss considerable time.

Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria (side) left the game Saturday, Aug. 9, with a left side injury. He'll be re-evaluated Sunday, Aug. 10.
Soria really only has AL-only or handcuff value. It could be a few days, or it could be a few weeks.

Detroit Tigers RP Joe Nathan struck out the side in the ninth inning to record the save Thursday, July 24. He was consistently hitting 93 and 94 mph with his fastball.
Fantasy Tip: This refreshing skill probably was partially fueled by the acquisition of Joakim Soria, an alternative for saves. Nathan isn't in the clear yet, but this is a big statement toward him locking down the job. He's lucky Brad Ausmus already has given him a long leash this season.

Detroit Tigers RP Joakim Soria is expected to make most of his appearances in the seventh inning but could also be used in the ninth inning if RP Joe Nathan is not available, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Detroit Tigers RP Joe Nathan will remain the closer, and RP Joakim Soria, recently acquired from the Texas Rangers, will work in a setup role, according to general manager Dave Dombrowski.
Fantasy Tip: Nathan's hold on the job is precariously, and he can ill-afford any further blown saves with a proven closer in Soria on the roster and waiting in the wings.

The Texas Rangers traded RP Joakim Soria to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, July 23, according to a source. The Rangers will get RP Corey Knebel, and minor-league P Jake Thompson. The deal is pending physicals.
Fantasy Tip: The bullpen in Detroit has been a dumpster fire this season, and the team would likely be well ahead in the Central Division race if not for its shortcomings. It's uncertain yet whether Soria will step into closer duties in Motown, but fantasy owners of Joe Nathan have to dislike this deal tremendously. Nathan has struggled with plenty of blown saves, and it wouldn't be shocking to see Soria step right into ninth-inning duties.

Texas Rangers RP Joakim Soria has a partial no-trade clause in his contract which stipulates a number of teams he cannot be traded. He does not know which teams are included, and he isn't worried about being traded before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. "I can't control that, so I don't worry about it," Soria said. "Obviously, people say things are there are rumors, but I don't worry about it too much."

Although the Texas Rangers have slumped horribly this season the team believes it still has a strong corps for the future and will not deal SP Yu Darvish, 3B Adrian Beltre or SS Elvis Andrus at the deadline. Players such as CL Joakim Soria or OF Alex Rios are expendable, however.
