The Boston Red Sox recently had discussions with the Kansas City Royals about trading for RP Joakim Soria but the talks died down after the Royals asked for several players the Red Sox were not willing to part with. Soria's contract includes a limited no-trade clause where he can block trades to the Red Sox, along with five other teams - the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.

The Kansas City Royals are still listening to offers for RP Joakim Soria, but want a controllable front-end starting pitcher in return. They still refuse to trade OF Wil Myers in any deal.

Updating earlier reports, Kansas City Royals RP Jonathan Broxton agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal. The plan is for him to serve as setup man to CL Joakim Soria.

Kansas City Royals RP Joakim Soria (hamstring) threw on flat ground again Friday, Sept. 23, but manager Ned Yost is staying firm that Soria will not pitch in a game until he can throw a full bullpen without any setbacks. Soria likely needs to do that this weekend if he hopes to pitch next week.

Kansas City Royals RP Joakim Soria (hamstring) threw on flat ground for a second straight day Wednesday, Sept. 21. He still needs to make it through a bullpen session before he is given the green light to resume pitching in games.

He allowed two runs on two hits over three innings, with one walk and one strikeout. RP Joakim Soria (hamstring), the team's regular closer, continues to be sidelined with a strained right hamstring, which he suffered Sunday, Sept. 11.
